What happens when you feed "food experts" McDonalds?
CRASHR ^ | 10-22-14 | The Looking Spoon

Here's what "food experts" have to say when they taste McDonalds under the pretense that it's organic food. (my favorite is the woman who says it tastes "more pure")

Pretentious BS. I've thought this about so-called "foodies" for a long time now.

It's food. Sure, there's good food and bad food, but we're in a bad place when people try to over-intellectualize it the way the people above and all of these chef reality shows do. We're basically treating food the same way we do abstract art now (half the time fancy restaurants even serve plates that look like it)

If you know the language you can watch the original video here.

My fav episode of Northern Exposure is about food snobbery.

Yes they have it down to a science and have made lots of money.

If it were that bad, they would be out of business.

Exactly! Your logic cuts right through the pretentious bullshit that even a few Freepers feel the need to spread. People like what they like and don't really need anyone to tell them what or why to like it. But there will always be a self-anointed few who feel the need to elevate themselves above the crowd and tell them what is best for them. And then a blind taste test comes along...

That I cut up chicken breasts (fresh from our local farmer), dredge them in seasoned flour, egg (fresh from our local farmer), then seasoned homemade bread crumbs (from my four ingredient bread recipe and homegrown herbs), and fry in organic coconut oil? This vs. pink slime nuggets of ground bone and connective tissues? Really? You’ve never seen kids chow down on homemade sweet potato fries made from sweet potatoes they helped mommy plant?

That’s kind of sad.

Eat if you like but don’t try to say it’s the same as real food and doesn’t taste different. That is bs.

When I am on the road, I eat Taco Bell. It is good enough and easy to eat when you are driving.

“If you’re used to real food then it’s nasty.”

Yep. Both McD’s and Wendy’s hamburgers made me and Mrs. Catnipman ill when we got “nostaligic” for trying them again a while back. Each burger (at different times) set like lead balls in our stomachs and didn’t want to go any further. End of nostalgic experiment. (Trying Velveeta “cheese” one time had even worse consequences for us.)

BTW, I’m the kind of guy who cooks dried beans and rice from scratch, makes my own buttermilk, own salad dressing, etc., and cooks almost everything from scratch with wholesome, fresh, and high quality ingredients (as well as being gluten-free by necessity). Needless to say I’m a fussy shopper.

At any rate, we both seem to have lost the digestive enzymes for garbage food like McD’s.

I like most of the fast food from most of the fast food restaurants.

Problem is, I like almost all food.

I limit myself to only a few, probably less than 20 visits to fast food establishments per year to avoid obesity.

You and the mrs would do well in our house! We love a good bean soup from dries beans and my homemade chicken stock (just canned 35 quarts last week). Our three (6 and under) love it too! They’ve never had fast food.

OK, not nasty, then. It’s disgusting.

Obviously, you have never savored locally grown organic tripe or free-range chitlins!

90% of a good food experience is presentation. Ingredients get it from good to great.

Most people simply hate McDonald’s due to presentation. If I made a McDonald’s style hamburger with choice beef and slopped all the toppings on a great many people would think it’s about the same as the McDonald’s burger.

Lot’s of folks will gladly pay more for what amounts to perception.

I raise and butcher my own chickens. make home made chicken vegie soup. Make bread from scratch, french, whole wheat, potato, etc. Butcher and prepare venison roast, BBQ, hamburger, and sausage. I know good food and how to source it and prepare it.

Making good wholesome food isn’t unique anywhere, but ask a dietitian and they will tell you “food toys” are good for a treat every now and then. (food toys are something different, not plastic trinkets)

Kids brainwashed into being little food snobs are very sad to see once they get out or the nest. They are truly lost.

I’m the kind of guy who buys 2 Double Cheeseburgers from the Value Menu and washes them down with the 16 oz value soda. Under $4 and it keeps me full for hours!

For breakfast, a Sausage McMuffin sandwich - $2.

I use McD’s less now that they have gone upscale and try to sell lots of foo-foo stuff. All they need are burgers, nuggets, fries & sodas, sold cheap and fast.

No brainwashing required! The first food for all three was avocado. They beg for apples and almonds at snack time. I’m so glad I have little “snobs” that don’t eat HFCS, MSG, partially hydrogenated oils, and artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, and preservatives. My “snobs” helped me plant hardneck garlic last weekend, and the oldest told me he couldn’t wait for garlic scape soup next spring. Nutrition is an investment, and my kids are very well diversified. If it wasn’t my bed time I’d tell you about the time we took them to a raw bar!
