Dozens of Ted Cruz supporters gathered in a stairwell of a drab dormitory on a recent subfreezing morning, ready for their marching orders. "What is our purpose today?" bellowed Cruz campaign staffer Ken Brolin, 64. "Find undecided voters!" the volunteers replied in unison, before bundling up in scarves, snow boots and mittens, and marching out into the early morning light, ready to knock on hundreds of Iowans' doors. Welcome to Camp Cruz, the temporary home for an army of volunteers from around the country who have traveled to this snowbound state at their own expense. Their mission: to do all...

Sen. Ted Cruz enjoyed a banner end to 2015, building a strong argument for being the top movement conservative in the Republican presidential race. But on New Year’s Eve, he was looking ahead to future battles. The Texas Republican told a conference call for 56,817 of his volunteers, according to The Blaze: We're winning right now. And as a result, I want to tell everyone: Get ready. Strap on the full armor of God. Get ready for the attacks that are coming." He added a warning: "We ain't seen nothing yet. ... In the month of January, we are going to...

On Saturday, the campaign will officially open "Camp Cruz," a home base of sorts for Cruz's Iowa Strike Force, according to aides. The strike force is a group of volunteers mostly from his home state who have committed to work for...

Most people might slap a bumper sticker on their car to show support for a political candidate. San Antonio resident Deborah Wall took it one step further. My apologies first for not knowing how to post this so Admin folks, please correct. I am attempting to get info out to Ted Cruz supporters in the San Antonio, Boerne, New Braunfels Texas area who want to get involved with an active pro-Cruz group. This article is was done on Debbie Wall, a local Ted Cruz supporter who is spearheading CRUZ16. She asked me to post.

Within the veteran community, there are over 1.8 million women. Some of those women are part of a pro-military organization called Pin Ups For Vets: Veterans Pin Ups For Vets is a non-profit that produces WWII-style pinup calendars every year. Proceeds from the calendar help to support our hospitalized veterans and deployed troops. The women who are part of Pin Ups For Vets even go to the VA hospitals to hand deliver them. What is going on with the young adults of this Country and other Nations? Why are so many susceptible to the radical beliefs of ISIS and others to take up arms against innocent civilians?

The state’s most dedicated activists are getting showered with attention.CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—The Monday after Easter, 73-year-old Joni Scotter found herself at the hospital for the second time in as many days. The two-time cancer survivor, having just been treated for a skin condition, was about to be hospitalized for three days after a series of tests revealed another problem: kidney failure. It didn't take long for the well-wishes to pour in from concerned friends, family—and Republican presidential contenders. Jeb Bush sent flowers and a handwritten note. Ted Cruz passed along flowers as well. Scott Walker mailed a copy of his...

An experimental Ebola vaccine appears safe and triggered signs of immune protection in the first 20 volunteers to test it, U.S. researchers reported Wednesday. The vaccine is designed to spur the immune system's production of anti-Ebola antibodies, and people developed them within four weeks of getting the shots at the National Institutes of Health. Half of the test group received a higher-dose shot, and those people produced more antibodies, said the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Some people also developed a different set of virus-fighting immune cells, named T cells, the study found.

Hey, no bigs. The state just fined a tiny winery $115,000 for using volunteers who were learning to make wine while getting the vineyard’s product to market. They were illegal paid labor, you see. Can’t have two free parties engaging in a trade of labor for specialized knowledge without the state getting involved and depriving the area of this particular business, its job opportunities, and its wares. Congrats, public. You have been served and protected: A small-time vintner’s use of volunteer workers has put him out of business after the state squeezed him like a late-summer grape for $115,000...

Britons are to be the first in the world to test a new vaccine against the deadly ebola virus. Altogether 60 healthy volunteers will be given the vaccine next month in a trial led by Oxford University scientists. If the vaccine performs as well in humans as in monkeys, the trial will be extended to 80 people in The Gambia and in Mali. The entire trial programme is being fast-tracked – subject to ethical approval – with the intention of using the vaccine in people at high risk in West Africa early next year. Latest figures show that more than...

PILGER, Neb. — Shock and grief gave way to hard work Wednesday in Pilger as crews began removing what the tornado left behind. Only about 350 people live in the town where an estimated 80 percent of buildings were leveled or damaged beyond repair Monday. But on Wednesday — the first day people other than residents were allowed into the affected areas — 1,800 people registered as volunteers and came to lend a hand. Some came with no connection to the town, but many others were family and friends of Pilger residents, or neighbors who had been spared.

From manicures to motorcycles, four Little League crooks in three states used team funds for more than baseballs, bats and celebratory ice cream cones. Thanks to community kindness, it’s still game-on this spring. With the start of a new baseball season comes a disheartening stat that makes you worry not just for the national pastime, but for the nation itself: In less than a year, four little league presidents have been charged with looting their organization's treasury. The thefts left three of the leagues in such sorry financial shape that it seemed the kids might not be able to play...

Gene Robinson of Wimberly, Texas, is a licensed pilot and also flies radio-controlled model airplanes—not an unusual combination. About a decade ago, he realized that a model aircraft outfitted to take aerial photos could be enormously useful in locating people who have gone missing—perhaps because they’ve been abducted or maybe just because they are very young and have wandered off into the woods alone. His efforts have paid valuable dividends over the years—helping find the remains of nearly a dozen people. But since late February his search-and-rescue model airplanes have been grounded: That’s when the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration notified...

While some teens are busy with their social lives, school or sports, others are spending their time cuddling cats as volunteers at the Humane League of Lancaster. From working at the desk and filing paperwork to cleaning out cages and playing with the cute critters, these teen volunteers give up hours of their own time to help animals in need. “It’s calming and it makes me so happy,” Rothweiler says. “(Others) should definitely volunteer because it is a great learning experience and they could always use help. Also, who wouldn’t want to want to be around the animals?”

Last March, North Dakota gave us a heart-warming demonstration of traditional voluntary service -- in minus 20 degree weather. As the rising Red River threatened to flood Fargo, willing volunteers gathered by the thousands. Before long, they had filled and stacked over 2 million sandbags to barricade the city against the raging waters. Christians prayed for victory over the forces of nature, and by God's grace, the make-shift dikes held. About 6,000 volunteers of all ages had simply followed their conscience, worked together and met the need. Unlike President Obama's plan for government-directed "service," neither prayer nor God's comforting Truths...

Remembering The Yom Kippur War: An American's StoryBy Joel Leyden Israel News Agency / Israel Forever FoundationAs I write the diary below memories begin to pour back along with the anxiety and tears that we all experienced at the time. For many of us, the scars of war will never heal. Nor should they. image Israel was unprepared for a surprise attack by Syria and Egypt. The Yom Kippur War took the lives of 2,688 Israeli troops. Sitting in the relative safety of a suburban Long Island home, I first heard news reports of Arab armies attacking Israel on October...

Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday offered Russian replacements for the peacekeeping force Austria wants to withdraw from the Golan Heights. Austria said it was concerned about the safety of its 370 soldiers because the conflict in Syria has spread to a strategic border crossing. Security conditions have deteriorated in the area around the U.N. Golan Heights headquarters since the Quneitra crossing became the site of a clash between Syrian and rebel forces, CNN reported Friday. Austria's announcement it will remove its soldiers slashes the number of U.N. troops in the Golan Heights by one-third. Filipino and Indian peacekeepers will remain...
