These solid conservatives lost in 2006 because so-called conservatives were so angry about illegal immigration that they stayed home. Thus, allowing the eventual passing of the amnesty bill they opposed in the first place. Let's see. Staying home in 2006 was a principled position even though those who stayed home stabbed the troops in the back and these three solid conservative senators.
