As we gathered Oct. 19 for Week 193, Post Commander Halsey came with the sad news. Another Legionnaire, Francis, had passed away the night before. He seemed in good health for a WWII vet but his heart just gave out. Francis was the Post treasurer for as long as any one could remember and a good supporter of our Saturday morning Support the Troops Rallies. He would come, spend about half an hour with us and then head out to see his wife. She had advance alzheimers and didn’t know Francis anymore. But off he went anyways to see her...

While the FReepers from Olney were enjoying ourselves at the Capitol on 9-12, the Legionnaires were holding down the Patriot's Corner in Olney. Legionnaire Frank is the second Vet and dear friend of the Olney Patriots to pass away this summer. Clyde passed away in early May and now Frank. Frank passed away this past Tuesday after a blood disorder finally got the best of him. Thankfully he passed away quickly and in comfort, with his family around him. Two local Olney businesses, Fletcher’s BP and Greaves Auto Repairs & Appliance Center took it upon themselves to put up flags along the two main streets in Olney. About 5 years ago they got the necessary permits and paid all expenses to put the flags up from Memorial Weekend till after the July 4th holidays, and the again during the Labor Day Weekend. Have you every met a person who personifies all the is good in America? In Olney that person is Clyde who passed away last Friday at age 89. Soon after getting back from the war, Clyde started Olney Electric and joined the Sandy Spring Legionnaires where he has been a member for the past 63 years. Clyde also started the Olney Chamber of Commerce in 1964. During the Chamber’s 40th Anniversary I had the honor of Clyde being my Honorary Co-President. The Quakers sure had a busy week. Good thing they are still hyped up after attending their Peace Conference. First was the Communists May Day celebration Friday, May First. It’s a shame that Webster doesn’t define Quakers as a bunch of hypocrites. I learned this week that whenever the Legionnaires put flags on the graves of soldiers in the local Quaker cemetery, that the flags are promptly removed. No word as to where they go. This year the Quakers, and a local Episcopal Church, has told the Legionnaires, NO FLAGS THIS YEAR. This year, the Legionnaires will be adapting and overcoming the diversity. They learned by watching the actions of our current, possible illegal, POTUS.
