April 15, 2004--Pete Coors (R) is a political newcomer, but he's already competitive in the race for Colorado's U.S. Senate seat. A day after announcing his entry into the race, Coors trails Attorney General Ken Salazar (D) by just six percentage points, 47% to 41%. Salazar has a bigger lead over former Representative Bob Schaffer (R), 49% to 37%. The nominees for each party will not be officially determined until an August 10 primary.
