GREENLAND, N.H. -- The Greenland chief of police was killed and four other officers were wounded as they tried to serve a warrant Thursday at a home in a New Hampshire town near the Massachusetts border. Police say two men have been fatally shot at a northern New Hampshire home listed on the state’s sex offender registry. A third man was hurt. The shootings happened Thursday afternoon in the town of Dalton. The state’s sex offender registry lists two offenders at the address, 54-year-old Wayne Ainsworth and 48-year-old Joseph Besk. A new report shows that nearly 10 percent of non-Medicaid food-stamp recipients in New Hampshire actually live outside the state.
