A lot of show biz has crossed the stage at the Bing, and Thursday was no different. Fans stood in line more than an hour before showtime. Some held signs or dressed up. A tour bus lurked outside, and police rerouted traffic. When the doors opened, people flooded in, filling the ground floor immediately and then streaming up to the balcony. The crowd buzzed and rustled, in the full flower of Spokane diversity: every kind of white. Bald old graybeards dominated, but there were plenty of teenagers, families with children in tow, people dressed in athletic spandex and backwoods flannel,...

Gas prices are on the rise, and so like clockwork, a cadre of politicians are now selling the promise of lower prices at the pump. Newt Gingrich, struggling to regain momentum in the Republican presidential primary, is leading the way, promising to get prices down to $2.50 per gallon. "I've developed a program for American energy so no future president will ever bow to a Saudi king again and so every American can look forward to $2.50 a gallon gasoline," Gingrich said during his self-introduction at Wednesday's CNN debate. The promise might garner attention on the campaign trail, but there's...

......Deference to leaders who do not necessarily share your background or agree with you on everything is in the fiber of representative government. It is enshrined in the Constitution. In fact, there probably never would have been a Constitution if the Americans of 1787 hadn't been willing to defer to the "assembly of demigods" (as Jefferson described them) that convened in Philadelphia, closed the doors to the press, sealed the windows to eavesdroppers, and privately debated the future of the nation. ....What the Tea Party needs to do is look for allies. There are other people in the country who...

Newt Gingrich on apologies following Quran burnings in Afghanistan: "Our troops get killed, nobody apologizes" This evening on "Piers Morgan Tonight", GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich joins the program for an honest and engaging interview on topics ranging from foreign affairs to energy policy. On the heels of the recently reported Quran burnings in Afghanistan, the former House Speaker shares his candid opinions on the apologies issued first by President Obama, and then by General John R. Allen. "Look around the region. Churches get burned in Nigeria. Does anyone apologize? Churches get burned in Egypt. Does anyone get apologized?" asks...

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.— Newt Gingrich has been hitting Obama’s energy speech since the president delivered it Thursday, calling the speech funny enough to be on SNL and ”something worthy of Leno or Letterman.” Gingrich’s biggest talking point about Obama’s speech attacks the president for his embrace of investments in biofuels such as those made from algae. He is referring to a point in Obama’s speech when the president said, “We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance known as algae.” “Believe it or not, we could replace up...

FEBRUARY 24, 2012 Gingrich Suggests There’s a ‘Right Way’ to Legalize Gay Marriage By Danny Yadron OLYMPIA, Wash.–In a break with Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich declined to outright attack a new law that allows gay marriage in this state, suggesting he is OK with states legalizing gay marriage through popular vote. Asked at the state Capitol what he thought of states passing laws that allow gay marriage, the former House speaker responded, “I think at least they’re doing it the right way, which is going through voters, giving them a chance to vote and not having a handful of judges...

FEDERAL WAY -- Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, seeking his third comeback in the Republican presidential race, told a Friday rally that Barack Obama is "president of the wrong country" and ought to "move to Europe." Gingrich dispensed red meat rhetoric with a smile. He is again the happy warrior seen in a CNN Republican debate earlier this week, and not the angry candidate who won in South Carolina but then lost big in Florida. "Our only opponent is Barack Obama," Calista Gingrich said in introducing her husband. As for Newt Gingrich, he mentioned the GOP field only once with a...

Washington (CNN) – Casino mogul and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson made an expected new contribution this week to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, CNN has learned. One source familiar with Adelson’s donation described it as “sizeable.” Two sources said the Nevada businessman made the contribution recently. – Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker The sources would not speak on the record because Adelson wanted his contribution to be private. CNN reported last week Adelson was expected to contribute as much as an additional $10 million to the super PAC. A great majority of the funding...

Newt Gingrich affirmed his support for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in a detailed response to a marriage pledge by a conservative Iowa group. In his written response to the FAMiLY LEADER Gingrich, the current leader in the national polls for the GOP presidential nomination, said he would “vigorously enforce” the Defense of Marriage Act. The DOMA bans federal recognition of same-sex marriage. The former Speaker of the House also told the FAMiLY LEADER that he would sign an executive order restating that federal funds should not be used to pay for abortions overseas and defend the First Amendment...

Fed up with mounting legal bills and rattled by intense scrutiny of her family and work, Sarah Palin was ready to step down as Alaska's governor months before she left office in July 2009. Emails released Thursday, most from the last 10 months of her time in office, show she told her husband in April, "I can't take it anymore" and complained to spokeswoman Sharon Leighow and aide Kris Perry in March that she had been the target of "many frivolous suits and charges since the DAY I became VP candidate." "I can't afford this job," she wrote. The emails...

President Obama doesn’t have an energy plan. He has an energy speech that he continues to give regardless of the facts or his obvious failures. He likes to take credit for actions initiated by the last administration (without telling you that he’s reversed or stymied many of those successes). We should not be surprised by his detached attitude about America’s pain at the pump. He’s not interested in lowering the price of gas because exorbitantly high gas prices are one of his campaign promises. In September 2008, candidate Obama’s Energy Secretary in-waiting said: “Somehow we have to figure out how...

By STEPHEN MOORE Overlooked because of the buzz about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's new 20% income tax cut plan was the latest splash out of rival Newt Gingrich's economic policy shop. Mr. Gingrich has announced he will use dynamic, not static, scoring to demonstrate his plan's potential to jumpstart growth. The former House speaker arguably has the boldest tax plan, which includes a 15% optional flat tax. He would also allow young workers to take a share of their payroll tax dollars and divert the funds into a personal IRA. These plans have come under attack from liberal groups...

BILOXI -- GOP candidate and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has changed his plans for a one-day trip to Mississippi and now plans two trips, one on March 8 and one on March 12 before the state’s March 13 primary. The March 12 trip will include at least one, perhaps multiple, stops on the Coast, said Scott Brewster, Gingrich’s “grassroots” coordinator for Mississippi. The first trip will likely include stops in Tupelo, Southaven and Jackson. He said more details should be available early next week. On Thursday, the campaign had announced a one-day trip to Mississippi on March 8, starting...

In a fact check of Wednesday's Republican presidential debate on CNN, Associated Press reporters Calvin Woodward and Tom Raum take Newt Gingrich to task for stating: "If we’re going to have a debate about who the extremist is on these issues, it is President Obama, who as a state senator voted to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion." Citing the above statement in a list of what they call "head-scratching claims," Woodward and Raum challenge it as follows: "THE FACTS: As an Illinois state senator, Obama voted against legislation promoted by anti-abortion activists that would have conferred...
