Mark Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords, expressed his condolences Monday for the victims of the mass shooting in the Washington Navy Yard, saying “Gabby and I have been there.” “Gabby and I are holding the victims of today’s massacre at the Washington Navy Yard in our thoughts and prayers,” Kelly, who is a retired Navy pilot and NASA space shuttle commander, said in the statement from the PAC he and his wife co-founded Americans for Responsible Solutions. “[W]e know that nothing will bring solace to the families who lost loved ones. As the hours and days pass,...

On Monday, while the death toll mounted at the Navy Yard, President Barack Obama delivered a strident partisan tirade against Republicans, using the fifth anniversary of the Lehman Brothers collapse to score political points ahead of the debt ceiling debate. It was an appalling act of division and insensitivity, and unlike George W. Bush's My Pet Goat moment on 9/11, it was a calculated abdication of leadership. -SNIP- It was an insult to the victims and their families, a slap in the face to the nation as a whole, a dereliction of the simplest duty of empathy and discretion. He...

The Left, if it’s honest, will find no reason for a new push for gun control in yesterday’s tragedy. Now that the terrifying confusion has abated and the wildly varying reports have been collated into some sort of consensus, we are able to review what happened yesterday at Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard with a dispassionate and critical eye. Doing so reveals that it is once again time for the friends of liberty to be blunt and to be forceful in the face of what will inevitably come. So resolved, let us lay down this marker: Those claiming that yesterday’s abomination demonstrates...

“This was a model of how we can cover news with both immediacy and in depth, with new tools, traditional skills, and enduring values.†This was Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron’s glowing assessment of his outlet’s performance on Tuesday in the wake of Monday’s horrific massacre at the Washington Navy Yard. This assertion may be a bit premature, considering the paper’s decision to publish an editorial demanding action to address how an ostensibly mentally ill man acquired his guns – including a shotgun, a variety of pistols, and an AR-15. But this call to action is based on erroneous...

FULL TITLE: Inside the mind of the Navy Yard killer: 'Paranoid' gunman was being treated for mental illness and was left 'devastated after Thai girlfriend dumped him when she refused to move to the U.S.' Washington Naval Yard gunman Aaron Alexis began treatment for serious mental illness in August as friends of the shooter today revealed he was devastated last year when a Thai girlfriend left him broken-hearted. According to anonymous law enforcement officials, Alexis, 34, sought treatment from the Veterans Administration for paranoia, insomnia and possible schizophrenia just one month before his shooting rampage which claimed the lives of...

A civilian military contractor who was reportedly a practicing Buddhist at one time, Alexis received a general discharge from the Navy Reserve in 2011...

The tragic mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard has brought out the opportunistic ghouls from the sick left including Senator Diane Feinstein who are standing on the victims' corpses as bully pulpits from which to preach their anti-gun agenda as reported by Ben Wolfgang for The Washington Times: "Popular conservative blogger and former CNN commentator Erick Erickson admonished the rush to politicize the shooting, saying 'seriously people, grow up. I would not dare step in the way of America's national pastime of bitching about the politics of everything on Twitter, but there has to be a better time for...

I've been reading over at dummies unlimited and they have at least one thread that claims that the shooter had a CCW. I read the link they posted but it said without support that, "it was believed that the shooter had a CCW." FIRST. I'm calling BS straight up. If he ever had one it would have been revoked due to his past run ins with Law Enforcement. We need the truth on this to get out now. If anyone has real knowledge of this the truth needs to be known. SECOND The news on every major network includes that...

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is renewing her call for new gun-control laws because of Monday’s deadly Navy Yard shooting. “When will enough be enough?” Feinstein said in a statement Monday evening. “Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country,” she said. “We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.” "“There are reports..... the killer was armed with an AR-15,...... a shotgun and a semiautomatic pistol when he stormed an American military installation in the nation’s capital and took at least 12 innocent lives,” she said.

During CNN's live coverage of Monday's shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, anchor Carol Costello asked when the last time was that a gunman wreaked "havoc at a U.S. military facility." In 2009, a jihadist killed 13 in a mass-shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. "I used to work in Washington, live in Washington. This seems so unusual to me that a gunman could create this kind of havoc at a U.S. military facility," Costello stated. "Have you ever heard of it happening before, Brian?" she asked correspondent Brian Todd, reporting live from the vicinity of the shooting.

So it takes nine months and two days from Newtown, from 20 dead children and six adults, for someone else to carry the same kind of AR-15 that Adam Lanza carried into Sandy Hook Elementary School into the Washington Navy Yard. They call semiautomatics like this sport rifles. You bet. Mostly for the sport of killing innocent people, and killing them fast.

ust hours after the deadly shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, gun control advocates tried to reignite the national debate over gun laws that had only just subsided. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat and a longtime gun control advocate, denounced “the litany of massacres” over the past few years and asked rhetorically, “When will enough be enough?” [snip] The National Rifle Association had no comment on Monday, and pro-gun groups generally take the stance that days of particularly shocking crimes are not the time to discuss policy. Popular conservative blogger and former CNN commentator Erick Erickson admonished the rush...

The country mourned Monday after learning about the mass shooting deaths at the Washington Navy Yard. For a few scary moments, Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Morgan feared for his mother's safety. Morgan told reporters that his mom works on the same floor of the Navy Yard building where the shooting occurred, according to The Washington Post. Morgan, who grew up in the area, said he was unable to reach his mother after he learned of the shooting. Eventually Morgan confirmed through a Redskins spokesperson that his mother was safe. Before that happened, Morgan told reporters that he had a...

Before we knew the names of the victims, the motive behind the attack, or even how many shooters there were, some conspiracy theorists thought they figured out what had happened at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday morning. Alex Jones, the antigovernment broadcaster who reaches millions every day through his syndicated radio show and Infowars Web empire, speculated the shooting may be a "false flag" operation intended to distract Americans from Syria, as well as the anniversary of the Benghazi attack and the simmering IRS scandal. "You've got all the other scandals, so this is a great way to change...

President Barack Obama on Monday wearily lamented “yet another mass shooting,” this time in the nation’s capital where the debate that raged earlier this year over tightening firearms laws has stalled amid opposition from gun-rights advocates. The shooting at the Washington Navy Yard came a week after voters recalled two Colorado legislators who supported tougher gun measures, illustrating the strong political headwinds faced by lawmakers seeking to respond to the violence. …

NBC News reports that Aaron Alexis was armed with "an assault-style rifle, a shotgun and a handgun" when he was killed in a shootout with authorities. Law enforcement told NBC "they believed he arrived packing only the shotgun, which he bought last week from a gun dealer in Lorton, Va., about 20 miles from Washington." The Washington DC local NBC affiliate says that sources informed them "that surveillance footage showed that he began his attack with a shotgun, but was found with a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle." The suspected gunman appeared to have seized firearms from two of...
