BEIJING — A mall in northern China has installed a larger-than-life canine statue with more than a passing resemblance to US President Donald Trump to welcome the coming Year of the Dog. The giant pooch towers above shoppers in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, sporting a slick golden pompadour, angled brows and a red scarf with one index finger raised in a distinctly Trumpian manner. As he was born in 1946, Trump, who has been accused of having more bark than bite, is a dog under the Chinese zodiac—a trait which he shares with his predecessors George W. Bush and...

When teens aren’t busy having illegal Ikea sleepovers or jumping into zebra exhibits at the zoo for love, sometimes they find time to flock to the malls of New Jersey, where they kick doors and run up escalators the wrong way. As NBC-10 reports, between 700 and 1,000 teens created such a disturbance at the Cherry Hill Mall in southern New Jersey the day after Christmas. Fellow shoppers were reportedly frightened as the teens moved around nonsensically, and a few fights even broke out. “Kids [were] running up and down the escalator the wrong way, so they shut them off,...

The new owner of Vista Ridge Mall has lots of ideas to make the shopping center attractive to families and even for people who don't care about shopping. Odessa businessman John Bushman wants to turn the mall into a community space where people can find some "peace and love" in the Ten Commandments, hear some local musicians perform live and take in a giant wave of a 30-foot-by-60-foot American flag outside. All of Bushman's other businesses — hotels in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico, other shopping centers and a Chickn4U restaurant in Odessa — display the Ten Commandments engraved on...

Call it retail-tainment. Just don't call American Dream Miami a mall. Developers are proposing a massive 6 million-square-foot (557,000 square-meter) project on the edge of the Everglades in bustling South Florida that would dwarf any other shopping mecca in North America, including Minnesota's Mall of America. Miami-Dade County officials could vote this fall to approve it, despite some criticism that it will worsen the region's already choking traffic problem and might produce mostly low-paying jobs. In general, malls across the U.S. have been in a slow decline as shoppers flock to the internet....
