As part of our ongoing research effort into the smear-campaign conducted against Sodexo, we recently came accross a – sizeable – bit of information that might be of interest to all party in this affair. It so happens that there is an online record of all financial activities at the SEIU. While it would be a laudable step towards transparency if it could be found anywhere else than on a federal website, it does have the merit of telling us a bit more about SEIU than its official communication – for which it spends hefty sums – will let you...

In a town hall on July 24, California Congressman Pete Stark gave us a revealing look into the mind of a liberal. He made the following statement regarding the Constitution, “I think that there are very few constitutional limits that would prevent the federal government from rules that could affect your private life.” While his honesty is admirable, this view is deeply unsettling to Americans who believe in the rule of law. When liberals are asked about their interpretation of the Constitution, they generally are not as truthful as Congressman Stark. They tend to respond with ambiguous rhetoric about a...

I was watching the 9/11 commemoration and, as if my psyche has not been assaulted enough by seeing again that horrible attack on our nation, I received a disturbing email from a friend. She asked to me read an article titled, “Social Engineering Bill In Senate Will Force You Into City,” by Bob Livingston. It is conceivable that this situation could be more damaging to our society than was the 9/11 attack. I refrain from trusting much of anything I receive via email, without doing some further checking. With just a preliminary check, indeed Chris Dodd did introduce SB1619, the...

Luke 12:4 "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.” Death is certain, life is not. As a species we are the most infatuated with death than any other that walks the planet. We have bucket lists, we pile our money into accounts, and as Christ points out, we live in fear of those who might do us harm. So many of us come into this world kicking and screaming, and go out the same way. We hold on so tightly to this world that we...

“You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:3 (NIV) For many years, I lived life backwards. Motivated by envy, I wanted what others had and I didn’t. Caught up in what the world said I needed to be happy, I was lost until I came to understand the truth of what God has to offer His children.

This involves many different types of manual labor, such...

WASHINGTON, July 17, 2009 – At least 59 of the 96 living Medal of Honor recipients are expected to attend the upcoming annual convention of the society named for them. The host committee of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s convention, scheduled for Sept. 15 to 19 in Chicago, announced the number in a statement released on the convention Web site, http://cmoh2009chicago.org, noting the unlikelihood of assembling that many recipients of the military’s highest honor at once. Of the 42 million men and women who have served in the military since the award began during the Civil War, only 3,447...

My daughter, who is married to a Japanese national, is currently working in Japan. She loves it there, but my son-in-law loves America (he's a conservative, of course) and wants to become a U.S. citizen. They were recently informed that their visa application would be approved, probably within the month and they would have a fairly narrow window in which to move back to the United States. My daughter has been offered a management job with a Japanese company not far from John Wayne Orange County airport. I'm trying to help her understand how expensive it is to live in California...

BERKELEY — University officials say people living and sleeping in the wide street median outside the UC Berkeley tree-sit are creating a messy, dangerous and noisy situation with their tents, litter and drumming circles. But the people in the tents — who act as ground support for a handful of people still living in a university oak grove — say their small encampment is there to protect the grove, help those still perched in the trees and keep a watchful eye on university police, with whom they've sparred in the past. "It's dangerous. We are getting complaints from people who...

Why official figures don't tell half the story. By Emma Wall Rising food and fuel prices, as well as increased taxes and other household bills, mean the average family must cope with inflation that is twice as high as official estimates, according to new research by The Daily Telegraph and moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison website. Taking all these factors into account, the Real Cost of Living Index (RCLI) is rising at 9.5 per cent. No wonder hard-working families wonder how the Retail Price Index (RPI) can be only 4.2 per cent and the Government's preferred measure of inflation – the...

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – One May 22, an aggressive aerial campaign in Sayafiyah and Arab Jabour targeted pests which had caused countless dollars in damage to palm trees over the past year. Left unchecked, the dubas beetle, which bores into the tree and kills it, can seriously disrupt the production of dates in the area, said Mike Stevens, Baghdad-7 embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team agriculture adviser. Behind oil, dates were once the main export of Iraq, said Stevens, a native of Alexandria, Minn. Because of dates’ importance to the economy, pesticides were distributed via two helicopters over orchards in...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A woman who has been considered dead found out recently that the government still doesn't believe she's alive. According to government paperwork, Laura Todd has been dead off and on for eight years, and Todd said there's no end to the complications the situation creates. “One time when I (was) ruled dead, they canceled my health insurance because it got that far,” she said. Todd’s struggle started with a typo at the Social Security administration. She said the government has assured her since the problem that they have deleted her death record, but she said the problems...

Families have been warned to expect a decline in their standard of living as rising food and fuel prices place household finances under severe strain. Britons have enjoyed a decade of high spending on luxury goods, holidays and second homes, fuelled by low interest rates, easy credit and near-record lows in living costs. But Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, issued a stark warning that this period had come to an end. In an uncharacteristically blunt statement, he said rising inflation and the fallout from global economic turmoil would take its toll on the spending power of...
