Well, at long last, GingisK and Lazamataz hit it! Um, at the gun range.Weather was clear and windless, the variety of firearms was truly something to behold, and the company was wonderful.GingisK picked me up, and after picking up his illustrious and charming boys, and meeting his lovely and gracious wife (where we all supped on Pizza, one of them affectionally named 'Sam'), we then proceeded to a delightful range slightly east of Lanier Lake in Georgia.I finally got a chance to break in my Glock 22, and discovered that after an initial period of reacquaintence with shooting (in other...

The Onion, the United States oldest and most revered satirical newspaper, first published in 1756, has announced that they will close their website and cease all publishing activities, effective immediately. Said the owner, "No more satire is possible. Nothing can beat the outrageousness of what comes out of Washington today. In a sentence: We are plum out of satire." Satirical headlines planned by The Onion, such as "Pelosi: Pass Health Care To Find Out What Is In It", "Major Tax Increases To Reverse Recession", and "Obama Bows To Communist Leader", have been superceded by actual news headlines, causing these satirical...

How to tell if you've been FReeping too longIf some, many or all of the following apply to you, you probably have been FReeping too long. You remember when you had to know basic HTML in order to form a decent post. You remember when the entire thread had to be 86’d in order to remove a single post. You remember when if someone forgot to close their italics, bold tags, the entire thread after that point was in bold or italics. You remember when if a disruptor made a mess of things during the wee hours of the night,...

LONDON — Two ancient Egyptian skulls unearthed in a yard in England have been returned to their native country. And the mystery of how they got from the hot sands of Egypt to the rainy north of England has been solved, investigators said Tuesday. The first skull was discovered by homeowner Matthew McClelland as he did some gardening at his home in the northern city of Manchester a year ago. He called authorities, and they discovered a second skull. An analysis by an Oxford University expert confirmed the skulls were a little more than 2,000 years old.

This is pure vanity, and bribery at that. Laz is important to this site. He's rude, he's crude, he's sometimes lewd. The mods can always ban him again. They surely will. But free Laz for now and I'm in for another twenty bucks. Who's with me?

DALLAS -- After Jose Luis Vega was charged with possessing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine in August, several of his relatives sought help from lawyer Cynthia Barbare. They insisted that Vega, an auto mechanic, was an honest, hard-working family man who must have been framed. It wasn't the first time one of Barbare's clients claimed to be innocent. In 11 years as a defense attorney, representing scores of drug defendants, "I hear that kind of thing a lot," she said. But in Vega's case, she and the district attorney's office made a surprising discovery. Lab tests ordered ...

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about taking a breather from Free Republic for a little while. Not long, I'm sure. But, I just don't want it to interfere with my job, and I already had that happen once. I'm reading and posting much too much. I think a short sabbatical should help me break this bad habit.See you all soon .... NOT DURING WORK HOURS!

Stocks remained sharply lower Monday afternoon as Pfizer's (PFE:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) takeover of Pharmacia (PHA:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) wasn't enough to quell investor paranoia about corporate accounting. A statement from President Bush that the economy was fundamentally strong wasn't helping either. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was recently down 296 points, or 3.4%, to 8389, while the Nasdaq was falling 25 points, or 1.8%, to 1349. The S&P 500 was behind by 30 points, or 3.3%, to 891, a level it hasn't seen since July 1997.Worries about the financial...
