Reform of Kansas gun laws are paying off. In 2014, Kansas passed a law requiring government entities to sell or use firearms that came into their possession rather than to destroy these valuable assets in a modern version of the Medieval Deodand law. In Deodand law, items were tried and sentences passed. They were destroyed or forfeited to the Church for Godly purposes. The legal precedent is continued in modern forfeiture laws. Kansas stopped that superstitious practice with the reform of the gun law. From the dailycaller.com: This bill will prohibit seized firearms not used in the commission of...

There is SOME good news for gun owners. Conservative Kansas Governor Sam Brownback just signed new legislation bolstering the right to bear arms. When asked why he passed such a broad bill, Brownback offered great rationale: "Kansans soon can carry concealed weapons without permits or training under a bill signed by Gov. Sam Brownback on Thursday. The new law, which kicks in July 1, makes Kansas the sixth state to allow “constitutional carry.†It will allow Kansans 21 and older to carry concealed firearms regardless of whether they have obtained a permit. Training still will be required for anyone who...

In 2012, Kansas reformed its concealed carry law.  People who were exercising their Second Amendment rights would no longer be excluded from public buildings, unless the building took active measures to insure that armed criminals would also be excluded. Active measure included guards and metal detectors on entrances. From kansan.com: The law would allow the University to secure the campus against guns by using metal detectors and guards, but it would cost more than $20 million to secure all 237 campus buildings, according to a 2013 report that the University gave to the Board of Regents. If the University...

Police later found the get-away vehicle in the Hi-Crest neighborhood. After a short pursuit and foot chase, two men were taken in for questioning and one of whom, Marks, was detained. All stolen items were returned to the victim. The TPD said they are still investigating.

When Governor Brownback signed the constitutional carry bill on the second of April this year, the disarmists predicted blood in the streets, just like a broken record. Fortunately, those predictions have proved wrong, as they have, time and time again. The law went into effect two weeks ago on July first. Now we have one of he first fruits of the law. A young man, carrying a pistol without a permit, foiled the robbery attempt of an Academy sporting goods store. Many would say that robbing a gun shop is a really stupid idea, and it shows in this...

TrainMeArizona Plan Spreads to Kansas! The lamestream media told you: A lot of misinformation: "news" reporting on the bill was typically horrendous. Ms. Stoneking reports: "Some reported we had passed open carry -- Kansas has always been an open carry state (statehood was in 1861). Some said now felons could carry guns -- uh duh, no. Some were talking how now we could drive around in our cars with a concealed gun with no permit -- uh, we already could do that as long as it wasn't concealed on our person. Basically just the fear mongering, Kansas will turn into...

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’s TerriLynn Barnett Miller said her group opposed SB 45 to no avail. The Topeka Capital-Journal quotes Miller as saying her group “spoke out against this dangerous setback for public safety [but] Governor Brownback ignored [them].” Another loss for Moms Demand Action, another win for freedom.

In Kansas, a dog owner deliberately let his dogs run loose and unsupervised. At least one of the two dogs, a 90 lb, 10 month old Presa Canario, attacked a neighbor's chickens, killing some. The neighbor called animal control, then grabbed a shotgun and went to defend his livestock. The Presa Canario charged at him, and he shot and killed the marauding animal. Shawnee County Sheriff press release: Upon arrival the Animal Control Officer learned that a Presa Canario breed dog attacked and killed fowl livestock and charged at the fowl livestock owner when he attempted to stop the...

SB 45 allows those who may legally own a gun to carry it concealed, without a permit. The bill has 26 co-sponsors. Only 21 senate votes are needed for passage. The bill changes a number of laws, but the primary effect is to reform the law by removing the requirement to have a concealed carry license in order to legally carry a handgun concealed. People in Kansas already have the right to carry handguns openly. From the text of the bill(pdf): (5) possession of a concealed handgun by an individual who islicensed by the attorney general to carry a...

It is important not to lie to the Sheriff, or to other peace officers. Remember, you have the right to keep silent. It is far better to keep silent, or to say "I want to cooperate with the Sheriff, but my lawyer has told me not to make a statement until I talk to him. In this incident, in Sedgwick County, Kansas, many people were skeptical about the story originally told by the home owner. From kwch.com: Moments later, the resident told authorities he heard gunshots. When he looked out his window, he said he saw the man lying...

Thank you for taking the time to contact me in regard to the election for Speaker of the House. It is an honor to serve the people of Kansas in the United States Congress and I appreciate your input. On January 6th, 2015, the House of Representatives voted to elect the Speaker of the House for the 114th Congress. As you may know, John Boehner was re-elected as Speaker. Speaker Boehner received a majority of the votes with 216 and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) received 164. No other candidate received more than 12 votes. As such, this vote was a...

During World War II it became the custom for families of servicemen to display stars in their windows, honoring the mothers, especially, as Blue Star Mothers — or Gold Star Mothers if their sons were killed in battle. If the custom had continued in the next decade, a Haviland family would have had a small constellation in their window. Thankfully, the stars would have all been blue. If Gertrude Konkel worried for the safety of her five sons in uniform, she did so quietly. Wayne Konkel, Pratt, the youngest of the five, said his mother didn’t listen to the news...

McDonald’s and its franchisees illegally retaliated against employees for participating in union-related activities, the National Labor Relations Board’s top lawyer alleged Friday in a case with sweeping industry implications. NLRB general counsel Richard Griffin announced Friday he will issue 13 complaints involving 78 charges against franchises and McDonald’s USA, LLC. Though many of these alleged labor violations were committed by independent franchise owners, Griffin ruled earlier this year that McDonald’s can be held liable for those actions as a so-called joint employer, leaving the corporatrion — and potentially other franchisors — exposed to such claims. McDonald’s said the decision will...

I'm not a fan of Governor Sam Brownback, but four more years of Brownback is preferable to four years of someone who is as out of touch with reality as Paul Davis is Davis talks about Brownback's cuts in education spending, but seems totally unaware of the fact those cuts have been restored. He pledges to restore the cuts that have already been restored. He and his supporters don't understand economics. They talk about Kansas job creation rate as if that was the most important measure of the state's economy. Kansas unemployment is only 4.8% which many economists consider within...

November 1, 2014 Kansas Republicans Take Strong Lead in Early Voting Ky Sisson 10/30/2014 8:00:00 PM - Ky Sisson It was a sad day last night in Kansas when the Kansas City Royals lost the World Series in Game 7. Today, the GOP in "The Sunflower State" have something to celebrate as early voting results show positive turnout from Republicans. Of the 153,436 early votes cast so far this election 82,739 or 54% were cast by Republicans. In comparison only 47,468, or 31% were cast by Democrats. The remaining votes were cast by unaffiliated or libertarian voters. The blood red state of...

President George H.W. Bush is displeased that Georgia Democrat Michelle Nunn is using his picture in ads for her Senate campaign. Nunn, who led Bush’s Points of Light Foundation until 2013, is touting her past Bush ties to counter claims by her Republican opponent, David Perdue, that Nunn is an Obama follower. In a new campaign ad, “Familiar,” Nunn highlights her former relationship with Bush, showing off a 2009 picture with the former President, as proof that she is able to work with Republicans and Democrats. But George H.W. Bush officially endorsed Perdue in September and is upset that Nunn...
