British police arrested another person on Tuesday in connection with last week's alleged plot by suspected Islamist militants to blow up transatlantic airliners. "The person who was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of involvement in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism is in custody at a police station in the Thames Valley area" in Britain's southeast, a police spokeswoman said. The arrest takes the number of people being held to 24.

THE police and MI5 have foiled at least thirteen suspected international terrorist plots in Britain in the past six years, security sources have told The Times. To cope with the terrorist threat, Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, the Director-General of MI5, has now switched another £16 million of her annual budget of £200 million towards fighting international terrorism. A record 87 per cent of the MI5 budget is now spent on counter-terrorism.
