Javelin is a US-made, man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missile. It destroys bunkers, tank, trucks and low flying helicopters. When the gunner determines the target, coordinates are sent to the logic gob, which locks on the target. After launch and during flight the crew run like hell from the firing position. The missile is equipped with imaging infrared seeker to deliver an 8.4 kg tandem shaped charge. A precursor warhead detonates any ablative armor, then the primary warhead penetrates the base armor. Javelin is capable of destroying any main battle tank in the world today.

At a news conference in Kyiv on Friday, Ukraine’s newly appointed top prosecutor announced a sweeping review of past corruption investigations that had been either shut down or split up. Fifteen of those cases, according to an official press release, involve the founder of the Ukrainian gas firm Burisma. Former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter was appointed to Burisma’s board in 2014, while his father was leading policy on Ukraine during the Obama administration. The audit of earlier corruption probes follows a promise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made to President Trump in a July 25 phone conversation: that a...

The four Javelin anti-tank missiles, which cost more than $170,000 each... Markings on the missiles’ shipping containers indicate that they were originally sold to the United Arab Emirates, an important American partner, in 2008. "

KYIV -- The United States has confirmed to RFE/RL its delivery of American-made, Javelin antitank missile systems to Ukraine in a move that is welcome in Kyiv but will almost certainly enrage Moscow amid a four-year conflict that pits Russia-backed separatists against Ukrainian national troops. "They have already been delivered," a U.S. State Department official confirmed on April 30 in response to an RFE/RL query on the handover of Javelins. In a statement posted on Facebook, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also confirmed the delivery and said his country continues "to strengthen our defense potential in order to repel Russian aggression."...

Ukraine will soon have more lethal American-made weapons to help it fight Russian-backed separatists. U.S. officials said Friday that the Trump administration approved a plan to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine, in a long-awaited move that deepens America's involvement in the military conflict and may further strain relations with Russia. The new arms include American-made Javelin anti-tank missiles that Ukraine has long sought to boost its defenses against Russian-backed separatists armed with tanks that have rolled through eastern Ukraine during violence that has killed more than 10,000 since 2014. Previously, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with support equipment and training,...

The Red Arrow 12, a man portable guided missile system. Photo: Tamir Eshel, Defense-Update A man portable guided missile system, the Red Arrow 12 is similar to the Israeli Spike MR, another version of the missile seems a copy of the US Javelin. The missile uses an IR or TV imaging seekers for all weather day/night operation. The missile uses ‘soft launch’ techniques to enable safe firing from enclosure. Once aimed at the target, the ‘fire and forget’ system controls the missile through an autonomous flight to hit the target, enabling the operator to seek shelter. The missile can neutralise...

NEW DELHI: Israel, better watch out! The US is going all out to shoot down the Israeli 'Spike' antitank guided missile (ATGM) with its own "Javelin" missile in the lucrative Indian arms market. Given the huge size of the Indian ATGM project, upwards of $3 billion, Israel is sure to strike back. But for now, the US seems to have gained the upper hand. After earlier being rebuffed by India for not agreeing to "full" transfer of technology (ToT), the US is now promising to not only "co-" the third-generation Javelin ATGMs, but also "co-develop" its fourth-generation version. "This is...

FORT HUACHUCA — Protecting deployed American forces is a concern of military leaders. Attacks on Combat Operating Bases, Forward Operating Bases and other installations have led to deaths and wounding of U.S. and allied forces within encampments in remote areas, such as in Afghanistan. But now the Army is containerizing weapons which can be directed by a battle captain in a centralized command post where weapons can be fired remotely, limiting the use of human forces and therefore casualties from direct combat. For the past few weeks, the Army Electronic Proving Ground with a special team from the Redstone Arsenal...
