  • Bullish on HVAC!

I'm bullish about the future. I'm bullish about America. I'm even more bullish about HVAC. Sounds crazy, right? How can anyone be optimistic in the face of the persistent onslaught of negative news? How can anyone be optimistic about business, given the country's rush to socialism? Isn't today more like 1933, than 1983? Nonsense! Things seem worse than reality because our pessimist-in-chief has used the bully pulpit to manufacture malaise so he can foist an otherwise unacceptable agenda on a panicked public. An anti-free market mainstream media has been all too willing to pile on, resulting in the drumbeat of...

“Kill your air conditioner,” wrote Joe Klein in Time Magazine. “The unnecessary refrigeration of America has become a chronic disease.” What? I’m tempted to laugh at the lunacy. It’s as silly as banning the light bulb in an attempt to save the planet. Who could be that stupid? Well, in a few years incandescent light bulbs will be illegal. We’ll be forced to buy compact fluorescents, which require Hazmat disposal teams when broken. In today’s green environment, nothing is too insane. Frighteningly, our industry is increasingly considered politically incorrect. A decade ago, the New York Times reported that an Italian...

In 1945, Robert Sherman invented the modern portable, in-window air conditioner (Patent # 2,433,960 granted January 6, 1948). It was subsequently "appropriated" by a large manufacturer who made hundreds of millions of dollars on it. Sherman did not have the resources to fight the big corporation in court (they reportedly promised to "break him" if he tried) and thus never received a dime. He died in 1962. Recognition of his contribution to heating/air conditioning is long overdue. Click

What would be the cause of this? My cousin has central heating (no gas) and when she turns her heat on above 65 degrees, the entire house smells of sewage. She has had it checked but nobody can tell her what the cause of this is. Anyone care to take a guess as to the culprit?

4/28/2006 - ALI BASE, Iraq (AFPN) -- Most people either love them or hate them. Maybe it isn’t that melodramatic, but when people are sweating at their office or while trying to sleep they don’t have many good things to say about the heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC, shop. The HVAC shop here is responsible for more than 500 environmental conditioning units, commonly referred to as ECUs, a half dozen refrigeration boxes and more than 250 commercial-style air conditioning units. A lot of routine maintenance and repairs are required to keep all of them running. “We take one...

Does anyonew know where I can find an add-on application for AutoCAD 2000, or AutoCAD 2000 LT, that draws Sheetmetal Ductwork and fittings?? I'm used to drawing with the Quickpen 3D CAD Sheetmetal program and drawing in AutoCAD is just like the old days of drafting boards and 2H pencils -- VERY time consuming. A shareware program would be great, or one that doesn't cost too much. I've searched and searched and am at a loss. I did find MECH-Q, but it had bugs and wouldn't work. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh and not metric, but...
