Investigators say they frequently impersonated officials from the IRS in a ruse designed to defraud victims located throughout the United States... Four Texans among 24 defendants were sentenced for their part in a massive India-based call center fraud and money laundering scam. The U.S. Department of Justice says the group defrauded thousands of U.S. residents of hundreds of millions of dollars. All were sentenced in Houston this week.
  • TV's imported comedians often stumble while trying to 'fix' America (Samantha Bee, etc.)

In theory, the foreign-born comedians on America's late-night comedy and satire shows are supposed to provide a fresh, outsider’s perspective on the news in their adopted homeland. But in practice, these imported jokesters often seem to pander to their liberal audiences -- and that typically means unleashing vile attacks on the Trump administration. These comedians include Canadian-born Samantha Bee, British-born John Oliver and James Corden, and South African-born Trevor Noah. Out to 'fix' America Bee, 48, who acquired U.S. citizenship in 2014, is the latest example of comedians going too far in a bid to score cheap political points. She...

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austria’s right wing coalition government on Monday doubled down on plans to cut benefits for foreigners including refugees, risking fresh legal challenges and opposition from the rest of the European Union.Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s conservatives, in government with the far right, won last year’s parliamentary election with a hard line on immigration, pledging not to allow a repeat of the 2015 migration crisis in which Austria took in one of the biggest shares of asylum seekers in Europe. They see benefit cuts for new arrivals as a deterrent. In March the Constitutional Court struck down a local model...

There are two very different pictures of the students roaming the hallways and labs at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. At the undergraduate level, 80 percent are United States residents. At the graduate level, the number is reversed: About 80 percent hail from India, China, Korea, Turkey and other foreign countries. For graduate students far from home, the swirl of cultures is both reassuring and invigorating. “You’re comfortable everyone is going through the same struggles and journeys as you are,” said Vibhati Joshi of Mumbai, India, who’s in her final semester for a master’s degree in financial engineering....

Donald Trump took a lot of heat when he announced his candidacy for President, stating that he would build a border fence from San Diego to Brownsville and make Mexico pay for it, all to keep Mexico’s “unwanted” and “undesirables” from flooding the United States. In August 2015, on the campaign trail, he shed light on a flawed interpretation of the U.S. Constitution that has caused much of the problem of illegal immigration. That misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment, written to guarantee the citizenship rights of freed slaves after the Civil War, has morphed the amendment into a guarantee of...

NEW YORK (AFP) - At least four bands have been forced to cancel at South by Southwest after being refused entry into the United States, with some artists blaming President Donald Trump's policies. South by Southwest, the annual extravaganza of film, music and technology underway in Austin, Texas, has long been a launching point for bands seeking a break in the music industry. London-based United Vibrations, whose members include brothers Ahmad, Kareem and Yussef Dayes, said their authorizations to enter the United States were revoked. "We were looking forward to connecting with our brothers and sisters stateside to share our...

When arguing with the Left about matters of national security and terrorism, one becomes accustomed to their habitual moving of goal posts and artificial construction of sample sizes that deliberately exclude relevant cases. The most notorious example, of course, is the beloved “since 9/11…” canard, such as the oft-repeated although false claim that since 9/11 right-wing terrorists have killed more Americans than Islamic terrorists. The recent executive order by the Trump administration on immigration led to an urgent desire to proclaim that there is no terrorism threat from immigrants. The most egregious example: A tweet from The New York Times’ White House correspondent...

WASHINGTON — A team of prominent constitutional scholars, Supreme Court litigators and former White House ethics lawyers intends to file a lawsuit Monday morning alleging that President Trump is violating the Constitution by allowing his hotels and other business operations to accept payments from foreign governments. The lawsuit is among a barrage of legal actions against the Trump administration that have been initiated or are being planned by major liberal advocacy organizations. Such suits are among the few outlets they have to challenge the administration now that Republicans are in control of government. In the new case, the lawyers argue...

The Democratic Party often warns us that mixing big money and politics will corrupt democracy. They must have nominated Hillary Clinton to prove it. The Clinton Foundation was ostensibly set up to solve the world’s most pressing problems. Though it’s done some fine work, its most fruitful program has been leveraging Clinton’s position in the State Department to enrich her family, friends and cronies. It’s against federal law for charities to act in the interests of private business or individuals. Yet the Clinton Foundation secured high-paying gigs for its namesakes and helped for-profit corporations with family ties set up lucrative...

The Hillary Clinton campaign on Sunday announced a voter registration effort led by illegal immigrants on the four year anniversary of President Barack Obama’s executive action to protect illegal aliens from deportation. According to a statement the campaign launched “‘Mi Sueño, Tu Voto’ (My Dream, Your Vote), to organize DREAMers to mobilize their communities and ask voters to consider what is at stake for their families in November.” “DREAMers have played a pivotal role in our campaign, advocating for families who constantly live in fear of deportation–so we’ve created a program that aims to turn these stories into action,” Lorella...

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) on Friday said Donald Trump’s temporary ban on Muslim travel into the U.S. would not survive Constitutional scrutiny. “If I had to pick a particular position that would concern me the most, it would be the ban on Muslims,” Cole, a lawmaker close to GOP leadership, said Friday on MSNBC. "I think it’s clearly, you know, unconstitutional, it’s ill-advised, it would really hurt the U.S. “We need a lot of Muslim friends to deal with what we’re dealing with overseas, and we have some great Muslim friends. And we ought to recognize that and be sensitive.”

If you think it's hard to get unbiased news from radio and TV now, just wait until your local broadcast stations and other media properties are owned and operated by the Chinese, Russian or Mexican governments, or the Muslim Brotherhood. Amazingly, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wants to make it easier for foreigners to buy and run local radio and TV stations. The federal entity that monitors the media is proposing more foreign ownership of the U.S. media in the name of "diversity."

In news that must have shocked the vast majority of New York Times subscribers, columnist Nicholas Kristof this week divulged that he has seen evangelical Christians doing selfless, crucial service in the world’s most dangerous places among the most desperately poor, even though liberals know evangelicals are religious bumpkins. Today, among urban Americans and Europeans, “evangelical Christian” is sometimes a synonym for “rube.” In liberal circles, evangelicals constitute one of the few groups that it’s safe to mock openly.Yet the liberal caricature of evangelicals is incomplete and unfair. I have little in common, politically or theologically, with evangelicals or,...
