  • Comet put on list of potential Earth impactors

On 26 May, JPL's unique orbital calculation software determined that Comet Catalina was on what could possibly be a collision course with Earth, though the odds of such an impact were small: just 1 chance in 300,000 of a strike on June 11, 2085. Based on the 980-metre size estimate, that would produce a 6-gigaton impact - equivalent to 6 billion tonnes of TNT. Astronomers expected the addition of further observations to the calculations to rule out any possibility of a collision, as happens with most newly-seen objects. But that did not quite happen. The comet's predicted pathway actually drew...

I have wondered about Beck for a while, but loved his exposure of the communist network in the US. Since he left FOX...he seems to have changed...and the immediate disregard to the Bundy situation really made me sick. Beck didn't even give the guy the benefit of the doubt and touted the NYT version. I know he has risen to fame since 2001, ghost written several books, had rallies, etc....but to have a network, now? A base in NY....a major website (so buggy and full of cookies it puts me off). Does anyone else find this strange? And claims to...

In Louisville, Kentucky today, Freedomworks hosted #FreePAC, a gathering of right and center right grassroots activists. The keynote speaker was Glenn Beck, who had strong words for Mitch McConnell and other republican party leaders. [video at link] "I told you at the very beginning what this administration tries to do you and what the progressives on the right, let me tell you something, Mitch McConnell is as big of a danger to this country as Barack Obama is. The progressive disease is in both parties. Big government is a philosophy in both parties, period. It is antithetical to the American...
  • Jimmy Carter: Obama the Only President So Far Not to Call Me for Advice

Jimmy Carter has been very active in the decades since his presidency, and his successors have occasionally called for his advice. Except, it turns out, the current occupant of the office. A clip from Carter’s upcoming Meet the Press interview reveals that President Obama is the first president since Carter left office not to solicit the Southern Democrat’s advice. Carter explained, “President Clinton did and President George W. Bush and H.W. Bush and even Ronald Reagan used to call on us to go into sensitive areas.” They all asked Carter to deal with “unsavory characters,” but Obama hasn’t reached out...

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly says the "pinheads" in the Republican Party should stop opposing the minimum wage. "The Republican Party should really wise up and stop opposing raising the minimum wage. It should be 10 bucks an hour" to keep employers from exploiting workers, O'Reilly said Wednesday during his opening "Talking Points Memo" segment of his TV show. O'Reilly said his proposed $10 an hour minimum wage would apply only to adults. Teenagers just beginning their careers should be paid on a lower scale, he said.

President Obama on Tuesday cited the arrival of his second dog Sunny in his latest fundraising letter on behalf of the Democratic Party. "Over the past few years, a lot has changed -- for instance, we've doubled the number of dogs in the White House," he wrote in a fundraising email on Tuesday. ... Obama also cited economic progress, the end of the war in Iraq, the effects of Obamacare and reforming college loans.

"I think when it comes to media, the media needs to take responsibility for the effect it has on our younger generation on these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool," the "American Hustle" star added. "So all of the sudden being funny is making fun of the girl that's wearing an ugly dress. And the word fat! I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. “The issue is ‘are you going to have a civil war that’s going to hurt the Republican Party.’ The issue is ‘What’s right for America?’…I want a 1980 a 1984 those were the administrations I served under where I saw a conservative Republican president who knew what he was doing, who took on the establishment. And the Republican Party after he left lurched back to its neo-statist roots…. So what the hell are the Republicans going to run on? We didn’t defund Obamacare. Reelect us. • Ron Paul: Police manhunt for Boston Marathon bombing suspect scarier than attack

Former Rep. Ron Paul said the law enforcement that swarmed around Boston in the days following the marathon bombings was scarier than the actual terrorist attack. “The Boston bombing provided the opportunity for the government to turn what should have been a police investigation into a military-style occupation of an American city,” he said on the Lew Rockwell website, Politico reported. “This unprecedented move should frighten us as much or more than the attack itself.” The terror attacks on April 15 in Boston killed three and injured 264. Mr. Paul, a former libertarian political candidate who served in Congress as...

March 25, 2013 Ashley Judd suggests puzzling location for campaign headquarters Alex Pappas Liberal actress Ashley Judd has a puzzling location in mind for where she’d like to establish a campaign headquarters should she run for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky. During a keynote speech at the American Counseling Association’s 2013 conference in Cincinnati on Friday, Judd said that she’d use her famous mother’s garage as a campaign headquarters, according to local media reports. The problem? Her mother, country singer Naomi Judd, lives in Tennessee. Naomi Judd’s Leipers Fork, Tenn. home was featured on HGTV’s “Celebrities At Home” in June....

TAMPA, Florida - Mitt Romney regained the lead in the Republican presidential nomination race with a big win in Florida, but drew criticism on Wednesday in what should have been his victory lap with remarks suggesting he was indifferent to America's poor. Romney rolled to an impressive triumph in Florida, capturing 46 percent of the vote to Newt Gingrich's 32 percent after pounding his nearest rival with negative advertisements. The victory restored him to front-runner status in the state-by-state battle for the Republican nomination to run against Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 general election. But the wealthy...

After Barack Obama, America's first African American president, is America now prepared to vote its first black president into office? This week, the Republicans' best shot for a presidential win, staunch conservative Herman Cain, takes to the campaign trail. After an impressive showing in the first debate amongst GOP hopefuls, Cain, rather than Romney or Gingrich, could be the one to beat in 2012 -- a true black man. To clarify, being black in America is not about the color of one's skin or the curl of one's natural hair, though part of it. It is about a shared history...

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain once led a pizza empire but has never held office, making him the subject of a lot of snack food jokes but no serious coverage. But The New York Times' Nate Silver argues that poll numbers suggest Cain could be a legitimate candidate: he got 8 percent of GOP voters' support in Gallup's latest poll, putting him in fifth place behind Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, and New Gingrich. But all of those contenders are a lot more famous than Cain. And Silver argues that makes Cain's showing even more impressive because a lot...
