U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, moderated the hearing at the National Naval Aviation Museum. Fuel theft is fast becoming one of Mexico’s most pressing economic and security dilemmas, sapping more than $1 billion in annual revenue from state coffers, terrorizing workers and deterring private investment in aging refineries that the government, following a 2014 energy reform, hoped instead would be thriving with foreign capital. Because of government offensives that toppled narco kingpins in recent years, Mexico's drug cartels have splintered and are eager for new sources of revenue. ... The cash-rich cartels, believed by the Mexican government to generate well over $21 billion each year, are an increasing threat to Pemex, which in 2016...

The tricks of the multibillion-dollar drug business include using drones, submarines, ultralight planes and even frozen sharks to transport product across the US-Mexico border. Just consider that in 2016, US Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations agents attempted to seize a submarine in the Pacific Ocean with nearly $194 million worth of cocaine. And yet President Trump argues that his proposed border wall, a throwback to a bygone era, will "stop much of the drugs from pouring into this country and poisoning our youth."

Sean Penn’s lawyers have warned the streaming service Netflix it will have “blood on their hands” if a documentary about the actor’s meeting with Mexican drug lord El Chapo is released. The Oscar-winner is said to fear for his safety over the suggestion he helped bring the infamous Mexican criminal to justice by working with the American government. However Netflix is standing its ground, noting Mr Penn himself has discussed the bizarre meeting and refusing to pull the “stranger-than-fiction” story. The row centres on an audience that El Chapo granted Mr Penn and Mexican actress Kate del Castillo in October...

Sirens blared as a Ciudad Juarez State Police Officer raced down the street en route to the day's latest murder. Someone had been shot and the suspect was still at large. The officer arrived at an empty field on the outskirts of "La Valle de Juarez," an area notoriously violent and under control of the cartels. It doesn't take long for them to discover the body. It's a typical Saturday night in the city of 1.3 million people, located just steps from the border with El Paso, Texas. Cd. Juarez has been plagued by violence since 2009 when President Felipe...

OAN Newsroom The Trump administration is allowing customs officers to screen all cargo trucks coming into the U.S. in an effort to crack down on Mexican drug cartels. Under the Obama administration agents would only conduct random inspections allowing cartels to run their concealed loads through the border, but border security forces will now use technology to screen every cargo truck. According to the Department of Transportation about 471,000 trucks pass through the U.S.-Mexico border on a monthly basis. Officials say cartels often use other routes to transport drugs, but their preferred method is driving through a port of entry.

Okay, it’s not exactly an apology tour because he spoke the words while on U.S. soil. But it was an apology for America by Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson while standing alongside Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray Caso and Mexican Secretary of Government Miguel Angel Osorio Chong on Thursday during a press conference at the State Department. Speaking about the “illicit drug trade” while holding his hand over his chest for several seconds as a symbol of admitted guilt, Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson argued that Mexico’s organized crime problem is the fault of the Unites States and...

Cal State Los Angeles student and "undocumented" immigrant Claudia Rueda, 22, got up Thursday morning to move her family's car (you don't want your car parked on the street on street cleaning day), and when she exited the car she was met by Border Patrol agents and detained . By Friday night, Rueda had been transferred to ICE custody for removal proceedings. That much of the story is not in dispute. Rueda's attorney and friends say the actions are retaliatory and that she was individually targeted Thursday because she's an activist for (illegal) immigrant rights. Rueda's mother was detained...
