The political scientist Eric Kaufmann is no bringer of good news for us conservatives. In his latest CSPI research, there's a lot of handwriting on the wall for our kind. I tell you this not to discourage you, but to help you understand the immensity of the task in front of us. I know reading my blog can be awfully discouraging, but I firmly believe that real despair is to turn away from hard truths because they are too discouraging. If we are going to resist this tide, we need to know exactly what we are facing. I'll be taping...

My wife just called to report an explosion at the Eastman Chemical Plant, located in Kingsport, Tennessee. She said that the blast shook the building she works in, roughly two miles away. Media just arriving on scene, so no details as of yet.

A white silhouette of an exotic dancer straddling a stripper pole distracted drivers on Route 101 eastbound Sunday after the image appeared on a highway sign that’s supposed to display nearby attractions. It’s not clear when the image was placed on the blue sign just before Exit 5, but State Police reported it to the state Department of Transportation early Sunday evening, according to DOT spokesman Bill Boynton. Boynton described the image as a three-foot tall sticker or decal. He said it wasn’t authorized and that he had no idea how it got there. The sign is used to advertise...

There is a thread currently running here at Free Republic asking posters to fly the U.S. Flag upside-down as a sign that the Nation is in distress. Disagreement with the proposal abounds, so I have an alternate suggestion: why not fly the 'An Appeal to Heaven' flag from the days of the American Revolution. Flying it would be stepping away from the historical significance of this flag, but I believe the message is appropriate. We need the decent people of this country to make 'An Appeal to Heaven', because that is the ONLY way we put an end to this...

I am interested in registering a couple of domain names, but I am not sure which company to go with...GoDaddy seems decent, but a number of customers have complained about them being 'pushy'. Namecheap has good testimonials, but there are several drawbacks, as well. I thought I would solicit feedback from Freepers to see if there is a consensus of opinion.

As readers of the garden thread already know; I grow loads of vegetables to supplement my wife's diet in order to manage her diabetic condition. My wife is under tremendous stress due to a dispute with neighbors here in Red Hampshire. This has been a contributing factor in the deterioration of her pancreas, and she is now on insulin. The other night, my wife was awakened by one of our Siamese rescue cats sniffing and poking around her face. This is a rescue cat that is considered 'her' cat. He waits at the door for her to come home from...

A little confluence of events this week has brought to the fore of my mind the sad, sick reality that most people in this culture are so far gone that they WANT to be lied to, and will seek out and attach themselves to liars. While it is nauseating to behold, it is also interesting in a clinical sort of way. First, I helped some guys out in outing a con artist blogger earlier this week. What was fascinating was watching people cling to their "friend" even while being beaten over the head with objective evidence over and over and...

1. A cattleman at a school I just taught, during lunchtime conversation, shared a "mini lesson" that he teaches to children whenever he gets the chance. I think it is very wise, and worth sharing. It is simply this: EVERYONE HAS A STORY. And, SATAN IS REAL. 2. Building on that, I suspect many people out there are thinking this, but are too afraid to say it because they think that people will look down upon them as rednecks or stupid or unintelligent. Let me go out front as a person who doesn't give a crap what others think of...

Here is me speaking last week at "Liberty First" down in Colorado Springs. It is a relatively poor-quality video taken in the back of the room, but it is watchable. It has also been edited for time. There are a few jumps. Language warning. Seriously. You have been disclaimed.

At the Capitol on February 25, 2011, my husband and I confront protesters who are using the Veterans Memorial as a place to tape a lot of signs and pile up their stuff. They say that we are the first people to have a problem with it.

It's official - Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed and Christopher Nolan-produced "Superman" reboot. British thesp Cavill ("The Tudors," "Whatever Works," "Stardust") previously came close to scoring the role in "Superman Returns" when McG was to direct, but ultimately missed out when Bryan Singer took over and cast Brandon Routh. The very handsome 6'1, 27-year-old model and actor was also up for the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale" alongside Daniel Craig and Sam Worthington, Craig eventually winning the part. In recent years he's become known for his role as Charles Brandon, the close...

Official announcement came today that the comic book publisher that put “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” on the map will get a nod from the US Post Office next year, when DC Comics characters get their own postage stamps, this according to a USPS release listing the various stamp designs coming in 2006. “Our 2006 program commemorates a wide range of diverse American icons with something that will appeal to everyone,'' Postmaster General John E. Potter said in announcing the planned designs. One touch of reality though – the new stamps of 2006 will cost 39 cents, as the...

My apologies in advance on this story; I just happened to catch this on several different newscasts a few minutes ago, and I am going by memory as best I can. Unicoi County (Tennessee) sheriffs arrested two Israeli men after a high-speed chase down mountain roads in this east Tennessee locale. While the sheriff was in pursuit, local witnesses noticed that materials were being thrown from the truck as it sped by, well over the posted speed limits. These witnesses were able to locate some of these items; one of which included a jug whose contents became "unusually hot" after...

Did anyone happen to see the segment of 'America Remembers' featuring James Zogby and John McCain between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m.? If so, I can imagine you are as FURIOUS as I am right at the moment! Brokaw was speaking with a gentleman who had lost in wife in the World Trade Center holocaust last September 11th. He was angry with the "silence = consent" attitude of the Muslim community toward the murder of over 3,000 Amercans at this time last year. He cited a poll indicating that "90% of Muslims blame America" for creating the international climate of tension...

I am really getting fed up with Comcast Cable. The people of east Tennessee have been fighting with Comcast for a couple of years to get them to add Fox News Channel to their line-up. Last year, we were "promised" that FNC would be added to the cable system in February 2001. Then we were told that "negotiations had fallen through", and that there would be NO Fox News Channel for the foreseeable future. On several subsequent occasions, staffers at our local Com(mie)cast office told me "not to hold my breath" while waiting for FNC to be added to our...

I was the recipient of a very pleasant surprise when I retrieved my weekly copy of the conservative newspaper, HUMAN EVENTS, from my mailbox a few minutes ago. On page 12, in Joe D'Agostino's 'Conservative Spotlight' column, my eye was caught immediately by a black-and-white photo of Free Republic founder Jim Robinson! This is a very flattering article; Jim discusses the history of Free Republic; the mission statement; and the situation with the LAT/WP legal entanglement. Please keep in mind that HUMAN EVENTS has a subscriber base approaching 50,000, and is read by a number of quot;movers and shakersquot; in...
