With just four letters Ohio lawmakers have redefined marriage in the state. It will have a widespread impact on same-sex couples and businesses in a city already seen by some as intolerant. Senator Specter on (Fox 'n Kids this morning) commented that the Republican majority might request a "rule from the chair" regarding the use of procedural rules (e.g., the filibuster) to block judicial nominees from a simple-majority confirmation vote. As I understand it, a simple majority confirmation of the chair's ruling of an abuse of procedure would then result in termination of the filibuster. Senator Specter also said there are two precedents for this.
