  • South Carolina Democrats upset and confused over voting location changes (SC Primary)

Washington Examiner ^ | 02/03/2024 | Cami Mondeaux and Christian Datoc
Democratic leaders expressed frustration after a series of voting location changes in South Carolina resulted in widespread confusion just hours before polls were scheduled to close in the party’s first sanctioned primary of the 2024 election cycle. Several polling locations were consolidated as part of a cost-saving measure for the Democratic presidential primaries, according to a state code implemented late last year. However, not all voters were aware of the changes as they traveled to their local precincts on Saturday — even resulting in a scheduling snafu by national Democrats traveling across the state. Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison...

They've had days to examine all the write-in ballots in the Democratic primary Results: Biden (write-ins) 63.9%.Dean Philips 19.6%. Marianne Williamson 4.0. Others (on the ballot): 4.2% Write-in: 8.3% The assumption has been that almost all of the "Write-in" votes are Biden. That may be true for the 90% of the write-in thus far. But the remaining 10% could well be votes for "CEASE FIRE NOW" or "Bernie Sanders." Write-in ballots are only tabulated by name if there is a filing for a candidate's official status as a write in.

The three-week-old Israel-Hamas war has sparked protests by some high school students in Fairfax County, Virginia. Students, with their principals’ permission, have been walking out of classes for brief rallies on school grounds. Scores of students at Mount Vernon High School crowded the school’s main plaza at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and spent a half-hour chanting and rallying for the Palestinian people, especially the children. The students hoisted homemade signs and unfurled the Palestinian flag. There was a similar student protest earlier in the day at Edison High School. Other student rallies are expected Thursday at Woodson and Falls Church high...

The judge who ordered Pennsylvania to not certify the results of the 2020 election wrote in an opinion on Friday that the Republicans who filed the related lawsuit will likely win the case. Pennsylvania Commonwealth Judge Patricia McCullough made the assessment as part of an opinion explaining her rationale for blocking Pennsylvania’s election certification. A group of Republican lawmakers and candidates sued the Keystone State earlier this week, arguing that the state legislature’s mail-in voting law—Act 77—violated the commonwealth’s constitution. “Petitioners appear to have established a likelihood to succeed on the merits because petitioners have asserted the Constitution does not...

Nonpublic schools in Montgomery County, Maryland, are ordered to remain closed for in-person instruction through Oct. 1. County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles announced the health directive to be effective immediately, citing the need to protect the safety of parents, students and teachers amid the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the order. “At this point the data does not suggest that in-person instruction is safe for students or teachers,” Gayles said in a statement. “We have seen increases in transmission rates for COVID-19 in the State of Maryland, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia, particularly in...

Earlier this month, a Twitter account called We See What You're Doing posted a screenshot of a Northeastern School District principal's personal Facebook page, which shared a video saying that Black Lives Matter is a "leftist lie." The post asked Shallow Brook Intermediate School Principal Scott D'Orazio why he didn't tweet it from his school. It tagged the intermediate school's Twitter account. Now his job is on the line. The district administration, which includes Supt. Stacey Sidle, recommended his firing during a school board meeting on Monday night. District officials allege D'Orazio acted outside of his authority by deleting the...

The Northeastern superintendent is recommending the school board fire an intermediate school principal accused of sharing a social media post calling Black Lives Matter a "lie." At Monday's virtual meeting, the school board unanimously authorized the administration to summon Shallow Brook Intermediate School Principal Scott D'Orazio for a hearing before the board. The hearing would only be open to the public if D'Orazio agrees to open it, and his employment status would be determined by a board vote then, district solicitor William J. Zee said in an email Tuesday. The time and date of the hearing have not yet been...

Yesterday, the Survivors’ Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) revealed that Catholic composer and music director David Haas has been the subject of many credible accounts of “sexually predatory and abusive behavior.” According to SNAP, the Into Account network, which provides support to victims of abuse in Christian contexts, issued an open letter detailing some of the accusations against Haas: “The allegations we’ve received also contain a disturbing component of spiritual manipulation. Haas reportedly focuses attention on women with past histories of abuse, then uses the vulnerabilities created by trauma to create intimacy. Multiple women have reported to us...

NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana death toll from the coronavirus pandemic rose Sunday but the rate of infection appeared to have slowed dramatically, according to figures released by the Louisiana Department of Health. The state had a total of 3,540 confirmed cases as of noon CDT Sunday, compared to 3,315 on March 28. That increase of 225 cases, or less than 7%, marks a dramatic flattening of the curve Louisiana had experienced last week, when the percentage rise was as high as 28% on some days.
