Rick Sternberg is a baraminologist -- a form of creationist. He apparently handed off the article to fellow creationists for review (although we won't ever know who). So while Meyer's article was published in an obscure, off-topic periodical, it was also quickly retracted. Better luck next time.

Actually, if you look back at the Reston case, you will notice that the hemorrhagic fever was being spread between green monkeys who shared nothing but air. Flu-like symptoms were experienced by humans who were exposed strictly via the air, and while they developed antibodies to Ebola, they did not develop the hemorrhagic fever. At the time, the virus could not bridge the pneumatic/capillary divide of humans. At first glance this may seem a bit odd, given that this precisely what ebola does once it is in the bloodstream -- resulting in the leakage of plasma into the lungs which quite literally cause many of the victims drown in their own fluids.
