Dang. Is it too late to Skype a random polling place in WI (I did visit Madison a couple times...) and use my 53 votes? Or was that three-fifths of a vote?
Heck, a few weeks ago Zero gave a stump speech about a mile from my apartment, and a couple of my friends were all a-twitter about getting to see the president. I made plans to be elsewhere that day!
I suspect that many in that number (assuming it’s accurate) are also in the “I personally oppose abortion, but what other people do is none of my business” camp.
That may well be the most bigoted, inaccurate, and idiotic post I’ve seen at FR. But I know better than to argue against the Catholic party line here, so I’ll leave you to your self-righteousness.
That “literary criticism” is hilarious. I’ve read better stuff from my undergrads, and any professional critic would be ashamed to publish such twaddle.
Well Tom, maybe someday America’s Party will be strong enough to control seats in Congress, state legislatures, governors’ mansions, local governments, and lots and lots of money. But in the meantime, the Republican Party is our only real shot at putting conservatives in positions of power.
Romney is not one of us. He knows it, we know it, and just about everyone else knows it. But he is the Republican nominee, and I believe voting for him is necessary to stave off another four years of Obama AND to ensure funding/support for down-ticket conservatives. So yeah, the next four years are going to suck either way. But that’s not enough to get me to stay home.
If I may quibble: U of I is definitely blue-state territory (though even there are some fiscal conservatives), but it’s in East Central IL, not South. South is Effingham or lower. ;-)

We’re on the same page, then. I went to one McCain rally in 2008, which happened to be the one where he formally introduced Palin, but that was mainly because I already knew how damaging Obama would be.
Incremental progress toward conservatism isn’t pretty, but it’s necessary. Four years of WH and media venom have damaged the conservative brand too much to hope for a dramatic reversal, but we can make progress for 2016 and 2020.
