post more on this when I have it, but two sources who are familiar with the recanvassing of the voting machines in NY-1 tell me that GOPer Randy Altschuler, who'd been down several thousand votes to Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop is now up between 300 and 400 with the recanvass completed. There's over 9,000 absentee ballots to be counted starting next week, but the Republican had been down by 3,400.

Two days before the midterm elections, a new national poll indicates that Republicans have a 10-point lead over the Democrats in a crucial indicator in the battle for control of Congress. The GOP's 10 point advantage in the "generic ballot" question in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national survey released Sunday is slightly larger than the seven point advantage Republican candidates had on the eve of the 1994 midterms, when the party last took control of Congress from the Democrats. "But unlike 1994, when polls indicated the public had a positive view of the Republican party, a majority of Americans now...

Beginning on October 20 and ending on November 1, 2010, The Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion and the Morning Call will be releasing daily results from their statewide general election tracking poll. The results are drawn from telephone surveys of likely voters in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each day’s release will be based on the results of interviews conducted during the previous four days. For example, the initial release on Wednesday, October 20th was produced from interviews conducted between October 16th and 9th. While the total sample size will alternate from day to day because of varying completion rates,...

Much learning out of California, in SurveyUSA's latest pre-election tracking poll conducted for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KGTV-TV San Diego, and KFSN-TV Fresno. United States Senator Barbara Boxer, Democrat, nominally trails Republican incumbent Carly Fiorina among California likely voters interviewed on their home telephones, but, among voters who do not have a home telephone, and who were interviewed by SurveyUSA on their cellphone, Boxer leads 2:1. When the two groups are proportionally blended, SurveyUSA pegs it as Boxer 46%, Fiorina 44%, very much within the survey's theoretical margin of sampling error, and still too close to call, but...

RICHMOND -- The surprise winner of the 2012 straw poll at the Virginia Tea Patriots Convention -- announced by a literal drum roll -- is Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.). He won 14% of the vote in a 15-way ballot, beating Sarah Palin (13.5%), Ron Paul (12.5%), Newt Gingrich (8.4%), and Jim DeMint (7.3%), in a poll of 1,560 attendees -- at least twice as large as the news-making Values Voter straw poll, if I'm remembering correctly.

ALBANY, Ga. — More than 800 ballots have been cast locally in the first two weeks of early voting, elections officials say. The flow of voters into the downtown elections headquarters is by far eclipsing that of the early voting period during the July primary, Dougherty Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson said. “We’ve definitely had a steady flow,” Nickerson said. “We’re averaging about 400 voters each week.” There are still almost four full weeks left in the early voting period before election day on Nov. 2, and it appears voters statewide are taking advantage of the period. According to information from...

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Pennsylvania Voters shows Toomey with 49% support to Sestak’s 40% when leaners are included. A higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats in Ohio’s three largest counties have asked for absentee ballots this year — an ominous sign for the party hoping to repel GOP forces on Election Day. Roughly three out of 10 registered Ohio voters live in Franklin, Hamilton and Cuyahoga counties. With early voting under way this week, Republican voters in Franklin and Hamilton counties have requested more absentee ballots than their Democratic counterparts — hard evidence of a much different environment than 2008 when an avalanche of Democratic absentee ballot requests dwarfed Republican requests in both counties. In Cuyahoga County, registered...
