TROY, N.Y. -- "I'm excited about this endorsement of the Executive Committee, and I'm looking forward to heading the ticket for the Independence Party," said Attorney General and now candidate for governor, Andrew Cuomo, who picked up the Independence Party leaders' unanimous endorsement. "Developing a broad coalition for this campaign, that I'm not going to run a hyper-partisan campaign," said Cuomo. "We think he is the Independent voice that will take New York out of this current crisis," said Frank MacKay, the Independence Party of America's National and NYS Chairman. The Executive Committee's support paves the way for the full...

By CARA ANNA Associated Press Writer KINGSTON, New York Sergio de la Cruz says the abuse began when he was picked up at a day labor site and taken to a construction site in New York City's Bronx borough, where his boss took his Mexican identity papers and locked him in at night. For four months, de la Cruz says he was locked into three separate sites, most of the time sleeping on a plank bed and defecating into a plastic bag. As America's use of day labor grows, legal aid experts say this is one of the more striking...

Tuesday, September 20, 2005 8:28 AM Scotia Students Get Lesson on Violence (Scotia - CBS 6) — A lesson on how to keep violence out of schools on Monday for students at Scotia-Glenville High School. The lesson came from people are themselves crime victims. Their message to freshman was all about choices and consequences. Gary Geiger was shot twenty-four years ago while working the front desk at Albany Motel. Holly Pardue is a graduate of Columbine High School. Both told the class that no matter what type of conflict, violence is never the answer. Their best advice, to walk away....

Lincoln's Challenge, 1864 By Drew E. VandeCreek, Ph.D. Even as his armies pushed deep into Virginia, Abraham Lincoln faced his greatest challenge in 1864. Many northerners had tired of war. Democrats began denouncing Grant as a "butcher." "Patriotism is played out," declared one newspaper. "Each hour is but sinking us deeper into bankruptcy and desolation." Thus while Lee's armies teetered on the verge of destruction, the Confederate cause saw its last, bright hope flicker in the fall of 1864. Southerners considered their northern sympathizers to be "large and strong enough, if left to operate constitutionally, to paralyze the war and...

  • CBS burying story on Iraqi WMD?

    09/25/2004 12:28:51 PM PDT · by Ostlandr · 23 replies · 352+ views
Sep 25, 11:17 AM (ET) NEW YORK (AP) - CBS News has shelved a "60 Minutes" report on the rationale for war in Iraq because it would be "inappropriate" to air it so close to the presidential election, the network said on Saturday. The report on weapons of mass destruction was set to air on Sept. 8 but was put off in favor of a story on President Bush's National Guard service. The Guard story was discredited because it relied on documents impugning Bush's service that were apparently fake.

Okay, folks- the memos are fake. back to the real issues. On 9/12/01, I expected President Bush to take America to war against our enemies. I was(just)young enough to enlist then. I expected the President to call for a general mobilizaton, and ask all able-bodied men and women to enlist for the duration of the conflict. I expected the United States to immediately transition from a peacetime economy to a wartime economy. And I hoped our forces would hunt down and kill our enemies wherever they are found, without regard for international borders or international opinion. I'm still waiting. Too...
