I would have thought they would have left earlier. I work for Statoil and we were going to drill a well there too. As I understand, you can only drill in the summer for a few months. Wild weather we get here in Norway, but no floating ice. We have been waiting two weeks now to pull anchors on a rig. Finally got a weather window.

They should have secured it until the weather calmed down and they had a weather window to move.
Rigs here in the north sea often wait weeks for the anchors to be pulled until there is a weather window to move.

Norwegians(I am an American oilfield worker) always thought that muslims were great guy. Nice to see that they are seeing their true colors.

The permian basin is pretty mature and probably a good place for small operators that can use poor boy type solutions. They can get by with used tubing courtesy of the majors and probably the operations folks get a percent which means they work 360 days a year for a big payout. More effecient that a big company with armies of technical experts that go around and around the bush and never make decisions.

I dont know what kind of flowrates they have from wells, but you got to have a good rate to pay for all that cutting edge Schlumberger logging. And a Baker centrilift will probably cost you 500K. Nice to see that they can justify those costs there based on deliverability.

@heckrules: Yes, heckrules, I KNOW that the economics class example is an urban legend, but it made such a good and salient point about socialism that I had to include it. And it really hit home for two reasons. First, I was enrolled in several economics classes and and loudly argued against everyone getting the same grade each time the topic arose.
