ABC is refusing paid ads for its health care program at the White House. Thus they're refusing even a paid-for alternative viewpoint. Conservatives for Patients Rights requested the rates to buy a 60 second network spot immediately preceding the broadcast of the Town Hall meeting. Here is statement from Rick Scott, chairman of Conservatives for Patients Rights. "It is unfortunate - and unusual - that ABC is refusing to accept paid advertising that would present an alternative viewpoint for the White House health care event. Health care is an issue that touches every American and all potential pieces of legislation...

I have a legal question for some FReepers that may be able to help. Here's the situation. I paid for and legally downloaded an ebook. I then put that book on my personal web space for backup and for a place to access the book. After some time of the book being on my servers Google decides to index the PDF file. I never requested the index from Google.Google provides a link to the book where it can be downloaded for free from my server.Author of the book calls me to ask why I'm offering his book for free. I explain...

Beijing, Nov 2, 2007 / 02:18 pm (CNA).- Organizes of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing have published a list of “prohibited objects” in the Olympic village where athletes will stay. To the surprise of many, Bibles are among the objects that will not be allowed. According to the Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, organizers have cited “security reasons” and have prohibited athletes from bearing any kind of religious symbol at Olympic facilities. Other objects on the list include video cameras and cups. The Spanish daily La Razon said the rule was one of a number of “signs of censure...

Regular sex boosts a man's fertility, say doctors. In a contradiction of conventional wisdom on the subject, research has shown those who do not have sex often produce sperm of lower quality than those who do so daily. This is thought to be because sperms' DNA becomes more damaged the longer it remains in the body, cutting the chances of fertilisation and raising the risk of a miscarriage in the first weeks of pregnancy. The findings, presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine's annual conference, will be of particular significance to couples undergoing fertility treatment. Men are currently advised...

GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - This year's hurricane season could match the record breaking destruction caused by storms in 2005, the United Nations warned. In 2005, an unprecedented 27 tropical storms, 15 of which became full-blown hurricanes, battered Central America and the U.S. Gulf coast, killing more than 3,000 people and causing tens of billions of dollars in damage. "We have reason to fear that 2006 could be as bad as 2005," Jan Egeland, the undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs who coordinates U.N. emergency relief, told Reuters on Wednesday. "We have had a dramatic increase in climate related natural disasters and...

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco lashed out at FEMA on Tuesday, complaining the agency is moving too slowly in recovering the bodies of those killed by Hurricane Katrina. The dead "deserve more respect than they have received," she said at state police headquarters in Baton Rouge. She said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency still has not signed a contract with the company hired to handle the removal of the bodies, Houston-based Kenyon International Emergency Services. Calls to a FEMA spokesman in New Orleans and the Homeland Security Department in Washington were not immediately returned.

PARIS, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Rapporteurs from the Council of Europe urged Moscow on Tuesday to do more to boost human rights and freedoms in Chechnya, saying this would reduce the risk of attacks such as the Beslan school siege. Two weeks after the deaths of more than 300 people in the siege after Chechen rebels took hundreds of people hostage in southern Russia, the rapporteurs sounded alarm bells about the situation in the region. "Regrettably, the security and humanitarian situation in the Chechen republic remains unsatisfactory," Tadeusz Iwinski, Council rapporteur on humanitarian affairs, wrote in a draft resolution for...

ATLANTA (GoodNewsAmerica.us) September 04, 2004 - On a day filled with the horror of terrorism in Russia and the nation reminded of the possibility of terrorism in America, Presidential Candidate John Kerry has failed to address the subject. The Kerry campaign has released no statements condemning the terrorist acts in Russia as so many others throughout the world have done, nor have any recent speeches confronted the issue of terrorism. The horror of innocents held captive, where weak and fleeing children are shot in the back by Islamic terrorists while the world watches has not caught his attention. The malicious...

I've just seen a new MoveOn.org ad featuring a soldier on a weapons search team in Georgia on Fox News while watching the Guilliani interview with Hannity. It's actually the second MoveOn.org ad I've seen this evening. The soldier ad (NOT in uniform) revolved around this guy being on a weapons search team where he said they searched places like "scientific installations" (yeah buddy that's where they are). He said he was lied to and had Marines die around him because of no WMD being found.

Two girls found the lemonade business sweeter than ever Wednesday, after the St. Louis Health Department shut their curbside stand the previous day. Mim Murray, 10 and Marisa Miller-Stockie, 12, of St. Louis, have been selling lemonade together for three summers in their neighborhood north of Forest Park. The two friends hope to save enough to buy laptop computers before starting seventh grade in a few weeks. Last summer, they made more than $100.

(GoodNewsAmerica.us - Commentary) ATLANTA July 30, 2004 - With a rushed delivery, stepped upon applause, and a river of sweat running down his chin, John Kerry delivered an acceptance speech that was a bevy of lies, omissions, and plagiarized material from President Bush and Vice President Cheney.Kerry reminded us that, "this is the most important election of our lifetime.'' He was right, but that's only the first of two things he got right in the speech. The second was when he said, "the future doesn't belong to fear, the future belongs to freedom". But other than that, it was...
