House Democrats urged the Supreme Court to allow them to enforce congressional subpoenas for President Donald Trump’s financial records, saying that the information was needed to protect the 2020 election from foreign interference. In a filing on Wednesday (pdf), the House attorneys argue that any harm suffered by Trump and his businesses from complying with the subpoena would be less severe than the harm the House and the public would suffer without having access to the financial records so that it could “exercise its constitutional functions.” The attorneys said the information was needed to determine if legislation is warranted to...

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) on Sunday said a pair of his Republican colleagues who took issue with President Trump's July 25 phone call with the Ukrainian president were wrong to suggest there was anything improper in the communication. CNN's Dana Bash asked Meadows on "State of the Union" to respond to Republican Reps. Mac Thornberry (Texas) and Mike Turner (Ohio) calling the phone call at the center of the impeachment inquiry “inappropriate” and “alarming,” respectively. “They are wrong,” Meadows said. “With all do respect for my colleague I was in the depositions,” he said, adding he was one of only...

The report said 266,000 jobs were added in November, a figure significantly higher than the expected gain of about 180,000, according to economists polled by MarketWatch. Tens of thousands of automotive industry workers were added back to November payrolls after returning from a month-long GM strike, giving a boost to October’s lackluster new jobs figure of 156,000, which the report revised upwards from 128,000.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) wrote to the National Archives requesting records of January 2016 White House meetings with senior Ukrainian officials. The senators reference events detailed in an April 25 article by investigative reporter John Solomon, who quoted firsthand witnesses to report that Ukrainian...

Opponents have accused the government of sitting on the report by parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), which has been cleared by the security services, because it might contain embarrassing revelations about Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his party.Lewis told Sky News the report could not be published during the so-called “purdah” period which sets rules on government announcements during an election campaign.

"If the president has something that is exculpatory — Mr. President, that means you have anything that shows your innocence — then he should make that known, and that's part of the inquiry," Pelosi said. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) may be shifted onto the House Intelligence Committee, he confirmed on Nov. 5. “We’ll see. That’s a call for Leader [Kevin] McCarthy,” Jordan said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “If Kevin and Ranking Member [Devin] Nunes want that to happen—I just want to help our team. I want to help the country see the truth here, that President Trump didn’t do anything wrong and what the Democrats are doing is partisan, it’s unfair, and, frankly, it’s ridiculous.”

Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones was gifted his seat on the Hill. His Republican opponent during the 2017 special election was marred by sexual misconduct allegations involving girls who were underaged at the time. Roy Moore was a trainwreck—and he could torpedo GOP chances of retaking the seat in 2020 because he’s running again. Pass the whiskey bottle. This is an insanely winnable seat that could be held by Democrats if Moore muddies the waters. Jones was lucky in that the Alabama GOP in some odd turn of events, couldn’t get a sentient being to run for then-Attorney General Jeff...

Several Democrats – including a handful of 2020 candidates – lambasted President Trump for describing the Democrat-led impeachment effort as a political “lynching,” calling the president’s words “despicable and disgusting,” and accusing him of being a “white supremacist.” Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to slam the Democrat-led impeachment effort, calling on Republicans to “remember what they are witnessing here – a lynching.” “So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember...

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Elizabeth Warren issued a warning to Israel if it continues building settlements in the West Bank. "Right now, Netanyahu says that he is going to take Israel in a direction of increasing settlements. That does not move us toward a two-state solution....

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore on Friday endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for president in 2020, saying "he absolutely can win this." Moore said a reason for his decision to support Sanders is the senator's willingness to recognize that capitalism "is at the core" of a number of issues facing the country. "Why me for Bernie?" he said in an MSNBC interview. "Bernie understands that capitalism, and the greedy form of capitalism especially that we have now, is at the core of so many of the problems that we're talking about."
