A close reletive of mine got tagged for a pile of money about 9 years ago too... He had filed his apeal to their audit - on solid ground - but since he sent it via Federal Express... they never looked at it. He sent it ahead of the due date, but the IRS said since he used FedEx and not the USPS, it wasn't considered in their custody untill it arrived at the IRS office (normally the IRS considers a USPS Post Mark as proof of custody). It was a precedent setting case, featured in the WSJ and so on. I believe the law was actually adjusted after that to allow FedEx and other commercial carriers. How nice...

Hah!!! That's pretty funny. Might not be a bad idea! Here is a bit I did for TM Century's Daily Comedy Network that sums it up. Perhaps that's why I go tthe letter! IRS Greatest Hits (mp3).

I got my letter from the IRS yesterday. I was told that I would spend more money arguing with the IRS than just paying the bill. A lot of dough that I just don't have. I guess I’m in that 'small percentage' of the self-employed that will be audited. When you’re faced with the choice of spending ‘who knows how much’ on accountants and lawyers, or paying the fixed fee that the IRS claims I owe, it seems a zero sum game or worse. So even though I reported everything I made... and paid what I owed... I’m still forced to raise the funds to pay the IRS’ claim rather than try and prove the error was not mine. So... until we get the Fair Tax, like the true capitalist I am, I am auctioning my services strictly to raise money to get the IRS off of my back. I guess I’ll “sing for my supper.” Here's How I'm Going Raise the Money... Here's hoping for tax reform! I would sure like to concentrate on raising money for my family and not the government!

I like a good political joke as much as the next guy… no matter who it pokes fun at.

I’m not the biggest fan of Bill BUT…

To David Letterman. You have lost touch. It's sad, because I used to like you. I grew up with you. Your irrational, uninformed jabs at US policy and blind one sided attacks at our President and our country have pushed me away.

Bush, Clinton, UK, Putin... everyone had the same intelligence. The bottom line is, it was Saddam's burden to prove he had disarmed... he did not prove it!

The intelligence issue is moot. We wouldn’t have needed intelligence at all if Saddam had abided by UN resolutions!!!!!

Goodbye Dave... Hello Jay and Conan!

Remember... that was a New York audience but much of his support that keeps him competitive in the late night ratings race are conservative moms and dads that want their kids to be raised in a safe country... I guarantee they are not impressed tonight!

I agree... I like a good political joke as much as the next guy… no matter who it pokes fun at. Generally, don’t the big late night comedians usually stick to making fun of everyone?
