T'was the Night Before Inaugeration T'was the night before Inauguration, and up in the Tower, The Donald reflected on his newfound power. The conservative masses had come out in force, And delivered a victory that would chart a new course. The snowflakes were shell-shocked with tears in their eyes, The media lied to them . . . What a surprise. They had been promised a Hillary win, But the criminal Clinton took one on the chin. And though from all corners celebrities flew, They made no impression, for they hadn’t a clue. They talked about climate, racism, and such, And...

MOAB — A California man who was originally charged with aggravated human smuggling after a deadly crash on I-70 in Utah has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. Elvis J. Quintanilla-Vasquez, his left hand still bandaged from the loss of several fingers in the May 16 crash, pleaded guilty Tuesday in 7th District Court to one count of negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor. Judge Lyle Anderson accepted the plea and imposed a suspended 364-day jail term, ordered Quintanilla-Vasquez to pay a $720 fine and placed him on probation for two years. Grand County Attorney Andrew Fitzgerald told the court that...

SALT LAKE CITY - KSL Sports has learned through sources that a press conference will be held later today at which time Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan and assistant Phil Johnson will resign their positions effective immediately. Sloan was an assistant to Jazz Coach Frank Layden and then took over the team when Layden retired in 1988. Sloan took the Jazz to the playoffs in 16 consecutive seasons and coached the Jazz in the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. They lost both series to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. There's still no word as to why the coach's have...

SALT LAKE CITY — More than eight and a half years after a young Elizabeth Smart was stolen away from her own bedroom at knifepoint, a jury has finally given her and her family justice. A federal jury found the man accused of kidnapping and repeatedly raping her guilty Friday. The seven-man, five-woman jury determined that Brian David Mitchell is not mentally ill and should be punished for his crimes. After five hours of deliberation over 18 days of testimony in U.S. District Court, jurors found the self-proclaimed prophet guilty of kidnapping and transporting a minor across state lines for...

SALT LAKE CITY -- A bill that's currently awaiting Gov. Gary Herbert's signature would allow Rocky Mountain Power to automatically enroll customers in its Cool Keeper program. Rather than agreeing to participate in the program, customers would need to notify the company if they want to opt out. The utility company tells the Salt Lake Tribune too few Utahns have signed up for the program, which it says improves profits and efficiency. By controlling customers' air conditioning units during the hottest days of summer, the company says it can avoid buying or producing more high-cost electricity during times of high...

SALT LAKE CITY -- People in Utah's 2nd Congressional District won't be seeing any town hall meetings on health care during the August break. Congressman Jim Matheson's spokeswoman Allison Heyrend said the congressman has opted instead to continue to use a telephone town-meeting approach. She said they've had five such meetings since the first of the year. "We had about 46,000 Utahns participate, and I would say 90 percent of the questions and the discussion was about health care," she said. Heyrend said the call-outs for the telephone meetings were based on voter registrations and involved members of all parties....

I am interested in buying a hand gun and getting a concealed carry permit. I am in Salt Lake City. I haven't settled on a particular gun, yet, and would like to find a range where I can rent/borrow a few and test fire them. I'd appreciate any info about good (local) places that have this kind of service. Also, any suggestions as to where to go to get CCW training and gun safety/maintenance classes would be helpful. And if you'd like to throw your 2 cents in about gun suggestions, that's good, too. Please give reasons for your recommendations....
