The Tea Party Express Monday will begin running a new television ad campaign calling for the defeat of Senator Harry Reid. The organization held a press conference in Reno Monday, and is planning another in Las Vegas on Tuesday to launch the ad campaign. The group says the will also provide details on the upcoming "Tea Party Express III: Just Vote Them Out" national tour, which it will launch in Reid's hometown of Searchlight. Organizers held the conference at Harrah's Reno Hotel Casino on Center Street. The campaign cost the group $1 million.

Republican State Sen. Mark Amodei kicked off his campaign for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Harry Reid today, telling reporters that he’ll run a positive campaign in the crowded primary, but that plenty of people in Nevada want to get rid of the incumbent. “When you look at where Nevada is right now, I think we’re at a financial crossroads. We do not need the status quo,” said Amodei, who is from Carson City. “The focus really needs to be on Nevada right now.”

Former UNLV basketball player and secretary of state candidate Danny Tarkanian will run for U.S. Senate against Harry Reid, D-Nev. Tarkanian, a Republican, posted a Web site soliciting contributions and for the position and a short biography today. A Tarkanian campaign consultant from California declined to comment and said an announcement is forthcoming.

Barack Obama's Nevada campaign director died Sunday night of a heart attack. Terence Tolbert was 44. In a statement from the campaign this morning, Obama said he was "shocked and saddened" to learn of the death. "Terence was a strong force in this campaign, with a positive outlook that brought people together. He was much loved by his team, who often repeated his motto of 'leave no stone unturned.'
