First of all, if you can’t talk to people without calling them names, I have no time for you and if it continues, I will turn you in. Do me a favor and don’t ever post a repy to me again. You can direct your name calling to someone else.

So if Newt can't win you will stay home? Newt's record is just as bad if not worse than Rick's. There is NO perfect candidate. Rick was better on global warming, Health-care and TARP. Newt has been a reliable force for government intervention, enlarged scope and control. If you look at their records fairly you will recognize that fact.

Beyond what I copied and pasted, his policy proposals align very well with where I am. He espouses many of the same conservative principles we all have, cutting spending, regulations and government regulation. I honestly think that Rick and Newt have a lot of similarities. I like Newt too, I just happen to believe that his negatives will lead to a loss in the general election.

Rick's tax policies are different. His proposals to have two rates and eliminate all but a few deductions makes sense to me. A pure flat tax with no deductions for kids, mortgages and charity would devastate home prices further, kill wonderful charities and hurt families. I like his pro family & middle class attitude. He understands that we are being pressed the most financially.

His tax policy on manufacturing if done right can lead to more jobs in that sector. The US is woefully out of touch regarding tax policy and manufacturing. Other countries have a much lower tax burden. The three components of manufacturing that put us behind are energy costs, labor costs and the tax burden. We can lower energy costs, lower taxes and remove the restrictions that unions burden business with. Rick has the strongest policy on illegal immigration and frankly this is Newt's weakest area. He is for local panels deciding who can stay. That is a little too much like sanctuary cities for my taste. I live in the central valley of California. The illegal problem is a huge burden. They are a burden on our social structure, export much of their income to cousin Jose in Mexico so it leaves the economy and often pay no taxes by performing work for cash.

My post on # 56 has a link to his spending cut proposals.

    His website lists;

Rick Santorum believes that to have a strong national economy, we must have strong families. America’s government must recognize this and help create a positive pro-family environment for our families, our communities and our businesses. Rick believes we are a land of opportunity where all Americans have the chance to rise on their own merits and hard work. Sadly, President Obama believes just the opposite and using class warfare to divide America.

Rick Santorum is committed to celebrating the family by reviving our economy and creating jobs in America again with a smarter and simpler tax code. Santorum will roll back job-killing regulations, force the federal government to shrink and live within its means by passing a Balanced Budget Amendment and reinvigorate our domestic manufacturing and energy potential. His vision for America is to restore America’s greatness through the promotion of faith, family and freedom.

MADE IN AMERICA: EMPOWERING AMERICAN FAMILIES, BUILDING ECONOMIC FREEDOM
1.Cut and simplify personal income taxes by cutting the number of tax rates to just two - 10% and 28% returning to the Reagan era pro-growth top tax rate
2.Simplify the tax code and reduce middle income taxes by eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
3.Simplify the tax code, encourage savings and investment and reduce taxes by eliminating the Death Tax
4.Lower the Capital Gains and Dividend tax rates to 12% to spur economic growth and investment
5.Reduce taxes for families by tripling the personal deduction for each child
6.Reduce and simplify taxes for families by eliminating marriage tax penalties throughout the federal tax code
7.Retain deductions for charitable giving, home mortgage interest, healthcare, retirement savings, and children
8.Eliminate the cap on deductions for losses incurred in the sale of a principle residence
9.Cut the corporate income tax rate in half to make our businesses competitive around the world, from 35% to 17.5%
10.Eliminate the corporate income tax for manufacturers – from 35% to 0% - which will spur middle income job creation in the United States and will create a job multiplier effect for workers
11.Spur innovation in America by increasing the Research & Development Tax Credit from 14% to 20% and make it permanent
12.Eliminate the tax on repatriated taxable corporate income – from 35% from 0% - when manufacturers invest in plant and equipment; and reduce the corporate tax rate from 35% to 5.25% on other repatriated income and allow for 100% expensing for new business equipment
13.Repeal and Replace ObamaCare with market based healthcare innovation and competition to improve America and America’s health and create jobs
    14.Reduce Federal (non-defense discretionary spending) to 2008 levels through across the board spending cuts;
15.Eliminate all energy and most agriculture subsidies within four years letting the markets work, eliminate resources for job killing radical regulatory approaches at the EPA and refocus its mission on safe and clean water and air and commonsense conservation, eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood and support adoption, reduce funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for extreme positions undermining economic freedom, eliminate funding for implementation of ObamaCare, and eliminate funding for United Nations organizations that undermine America’s interests
16.Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution capping government spending at 18% of GDP
17.Support Legislation to Reform the Congressional Budget Process and support legislation that requires Congress to pass constitutionally required spending bills or forfeit its members’ pay for the next fiscal year
18.Eliminate all other Obama era regulations with economic impact over $100 million
19.Negotiate 5 Free Trade Agreements and submit to Congress in first year of Presidency
20.Tap into America’s vast domestic energy resources to power our 21st century economy without picking winners and losers so all American families and businesses can have lower energy cost
21.Unleash innovation in telecommunications and Internet consumer options by getting government out of the way which will expand productivity and lower costs
22.Reform Social Security and Medicare for sustainable retirements
23.Block Grant Medicaid, Housing, Job Training, and other social services to the States
24.Freeze current non-defense related federal worker pay levels for a year and reduce federal workforce by at least 10% with no compensatory increase in the contract workforce.
25.Secure our border, streamline the legal immigration process to attract highly skilled talent and entrepreneurs from around the world and reform the agriculture worker program so it works for America’s farmers
26.Reclaim the role of parents as the decision makers in their children’s education and incentivize the states to promote parental choice and quality educational options because the family is the foundation of the economy
27.Promote tort reform and alternatives to litigation for federal policies and programs; and incentivize the states to expand these reforms across our economy
28.Approve the Keystone Pipeline and other job creating initiatives delayed and burdened excessively by government regulation
29.Overturn the National Labor Relations decision preventing Boeing from opening up its airplane factory in South Carolina and prevent other decisions like it
30.Phase out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s government backed role in mortgages and homeownership within five years
31.Audit the Federal Reserve and return it to it’s original purpose – a single charter to only manage inflation
32.Strengthen our national security and national defense so that we are not dependent upon our foes or competitors for critical manufacturing, technology, energy and other security needs

During his time in public office, Senator Santorum was a strong advocate for a family and small business-friendly tax code, serving as the point man to pass the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 that revitalized our economy after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. For his work on reducing the tax burden on all Americans, Senator Santorum has received praise from groups ranging from the Club for Growth to Americans for Tax Reform and the National Federation of Independent Business.

    For Energy, his plan is;

America’s energy policy is critical to our national security and economic growth. Dependence upon foreign sources of oil limits our national security options, undermines our interests, and raises the cost of doing business in America. Unfortunately, President’s Obama’s approach has facilitated foreign dependence by restricting oil and gas drilling, making it more difficult to get nuclear permits, and picking winners and losers through failed pet energy projects. We must employ a policy that makes energy more affordable, makes our nation more secure by lessening dependence on unreliable or adversarial foreign sources, and increases conservation through efficient use and diverse energy sources. An effective energy policy will expand economic development and create high-quality jobs, resulting in a strong economy for America’s families and workers. It is time to get serious about unleashing America’s domestic energy sources.

For example, in my home state of Pennsylvania market forces are being used to explore for natural gas. Some experts predict that this exploration will create up to 200,000 jobs by 2020. This has contributed to dramatically lower natural gas prices for consumers, transformed struggling rural communities, created additional revenue for state and local governments, and helped the environment through expanded use of natural gas.

The policies of President Obama have moved us in exactly in the wrong direction. These job killing policies and increased regulatory barriers and burdens have made oil and gas exploration a low priority for America, virtually halting exploration. The President punted on the Keystone Pipeline and opened the door for China. Furthermore, Obamanomics has done nothing to fix a broken and burdensome energy regulatory process and has instead added to the burden. His philosophy and policies only limit growth and development in the energy sector and increase the cost of energy for all Americans. We need a strong energy policy that removes barriers, invigorates the American entrepreneurial spirit that spurs research and innovation, and unleashes a robust energy economy.

Energy independence is more important than ever to ensure our national security. Nations like Venezuela and Iran have threatened to use oil and gas as political and economic weapons by manipulating the marketplace or interrupting supplies. Countries such as Brazil, France, and Canada are creating their own energy independence through energy sources such as biomass, nuclear, and natural gas. Unfortunately, President Obama continues to burden and restrain our energy potential rather than unleash it. That is the job of the private sector and the consumer—not government. We need to tap all energy sources in a responsible fashion to kick-start our economy and preserve our independence and freedom as a nation.

    Core Principles
    • Create energy security and independence for the U.S. to strengthen our national security and decrease reliance on unreliable and adversarial nations.
    • Develop an energy policy that is consistent, uniform, and predictable for long-term economic growth.
•Rely on market forces and private sector research and development capabilities to provide Americans with clean, affordable energy through competition.
•Remove harsh regulatory restrictions on oil and gas research and exploration.
•Expand domestic innovations and energy resources. This includes oil, natural gas, hydro, biomass, wind, solar, clean coal, and nuclear energy.
•Encourage economic growth creating U.S. jobs and bringing us back on the road to growth and opportunity.
•Reduce energy costs for family budgets and business expenses.

    Policies
    • Remove bans on drilling—both onshore and offshore. This would immediately increase supply, create jobs, and bring revenues to the federal and state governments.
•Continue promoting private sector drilling techniques for natural gas. More than half of U.S. households use natural gas for heat, and a quarter of the nation’s electricity is made from it.
•Eliminate all energy subsidies and tax credits. This will prevent the federal government from picking winners and losers in our effort to unleash all of America’s domestic energy sources.
•Immediately approve the construction of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. Construction of this pipeline would deliver an additional 700,000 to 830,000 barrels of oil per day to the U.S. and would create 20,000 jobs.
•Repeal bureaucratic regulations such as EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations, Utility MACT, Boiler MACT, Cement MACT, the reclassification of coal ash, and any regulation of farm dust.
•Restructure the priorities of the Department of Energy (DOE). The DOE spends an exorbitant amount of money on technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and alternative-energy vehicles. All of these energy sources and technologies are currently available, but they are not yet commercially viable because of burdensome regulations or because they are still prohibitively expensive. It is not the government’s role to force these technologies into the market place

I don’t post voting lists helter skelter on others peoples threads, but since you asked, I can assist you with some facts:

National Taxpayers Union (NTU) issued a congressional scorecard for Gingrich’s record on economic issues. From 1979-98, Gingrich had an average score of 61% (with 100% being a perfect score on supporting lower taxes and limited government).

1968 - He worked for Nelson Rockefeller’s 1968 presidential campaign against Richard Nixon.

5/16/79 – He voted for the Alaska Lands Bill, locking up 68 million aces as untouchable “wilderness”.

6/28/79 – He voted FOR the windfall profits tax on oil companies, a proposal of Jimmy Carter.

9/27/1979 – He voted yes on forming the Federal Department of Education. This was a vote for bigger and more federal control of government.

10/23/79 Voted FOR Jimmy Carter’s gas rationing plan. This was a vote for federal control of the free market.

12/18/1979 – He voted for the Chrysler bailout proposed by Jimmy Carter. Another example of meddling with the free market.

6/12/1890 – He voted against states controlling insurance regulations and for expanded federal control.

12/16/1981 – He voted to temporarily raise taxes on coal producers during the energy crisis.

12/6/1982 – He voted for a 5 cent increase in the gasoline tax.

6/26/1984 – He voted to strengthen control and increase federal regulations on water.

He voted to raise the national debt ceiling in 1979, 1980, 1981 & 1984.

In 1984, he supported a $50 billion tax bill that eliminated a tax break on interest income, increased cigarette taxes, and raised taxes on distilled liquor.

10/26/1984 – He voted for Title IX and age discrimination changes to the 1964 Civil Rights Act with a specific exclusion for black Universities and colleges.

04/02/1987 – He cosponsored the 1987 Fairness Doctrine. The doctrine was attempts to silence critics in the media and have the government determine a balance of viewpoints in media.

12/17/87-He voted for $307 million for continuation of the Endangered Species Act. This haunts us to this day.

3/28/90 – He voted to elevate Environmental Protection Agency to Cabinet-level status. A vote for more and bigger government.

5/23/90 – He voted for the badly misnamed Clean Air bill. An environmentalist’s dream.

7/26/90 - He voted no on a resolution by Rep. William Dannemeyer (R-CA) to expel Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) for felony criminal offenses related to his homosexual activities.

3/21/91 – He voted for $40 billion for the unconstitutional bailout of failed savings and loan institutions.

6/26/91 – He voted for $52.6 billion for agriculture program subsidies, and food stamps.

10/5/92 – He voted for $66.5 billion for housing and community development grants.

In 1992, the House banking scandal revealed that Gingrich has run 22 overdrafts on his checking account, and this in spite of having voted himself a huge pay raise and having a taxpayer-provided, chauffeur-driven car.

10/22/1991 – He voted for an amendment that would create a National Police Corps.

March 1993 – He Voted for sending $1.6 Billion in foreign aid to Russia.

11/19/1993 – He voted for the NAFTA Implementation Act
In fact, Gingrich, fast-tracked NAFTA and GATT through Congress, in December of 1994, as a gift to Clinton, shortly before a new Republican Congress which would have likely defeated the treaties took control.

9/22/94 – He voted for $250.6 billion in appropriations for the Departments of Labor, HHS, and Education.

11/27/1994 – He supported the GATT Treaty giving sovereignty to the U.N.

04/25/1996 – Voted for the single largest increase in Federal education spending ($3.5 Billion).

04/10/1995 – He voted for a bill that also supported Federal tax dollars being spent on abortions.

In 1996 he voted for the Lautenberg gun ban which was supported by the Brady Campaign against guns. These changes in the law gave the right to strip second amendment rights for certain misdemeanors. He vocally defended the Lautenberg gun ban on Meet the Press in September of 1996. Because of this, he received a “D” rating from Gun Owners of America (GOA) that year.

In 1998, he derided a group of House conservatives by calling them the “the perfectionist caucus” for opposing a 4,000-page omnibus spending bill, adding that “those of us who have grown up and matured in this process understand after the last four years that we have to work together on big issues.”

In 2003, when he urged “every conservative member of Congress” to support the Medicare drug benefit bill. He called it the “most important reorganization of our nation’s healthcare system since the original Medicare Bill of 1965.” The drug benefit now costs taxpayers over $60 billion a year and has almost $16 trillion in unfunded liabilities.

11/29/2006 – He said that free speech should be curtailed in order to fight terrorism. He called for a “serious debate about the 1st Amendment.”

In the mid-2000s, he partnered with then-Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) to promote a centrist solution to fixing the nation’s health care system.

In 2006, he wrote these quotes:
“Finally, Congress should tie education funding to school accountability. The No Child Left Behind law is making it blaringly obvious just how many schools are crippling and destroying children. We should save the children. Congress should require school systems to institute metrics-based performance standards in order to receive federal funding to ensure that every child is getting the education that they deserve.”

“Every conservative member of Congress should vote for this Medicare bill. It is the most important reorganization of our nation’s healthcare system since the original Medicare Bill of 1965 and the largest and most positive change in direction for the health system in 60 years for people over 65.”

“Congress should allow seniors to get the drugs they need by adding a prescription drug benefit to Medicare.”
Gingrich strongly supported Medicare Part D, and in a 2006 op-ed lauded the virtues of it during the first year of its implementation.

02/15/2007 – He supported Bush’s proposal for mandatory carbon caps. More global warming crap.

04/17/2008 – Made a commercial with Nancy Pelosi on Climate Change.

In late 2008, when he backed the $700 billion Wall Street bailout. While he was initially opposed to it, he “reluctantly” endorsed it when successful passage was uncertain in Congress and it looked like it may fail.

in his 2008 book “Real Change”, Gingrich advocated an individual mandate for health insurance. A similar mandate is central to ObamaCare and is being challenged by 26 states in court as being unconstitutional. Gingrich wrote then: “[I]ndividuals are expected to help pay for their care. Everyone should be required to have coverage.”

10/01/2008 – Says in an article he authored that TARP was a “workout, not a bailout.”

12/08/2008 – He was paid $300,000 by Freddie Mac as a consultant. His pay came from their lobbying division. Freddie and Fannie typically hired powerful politicians in both parties to purchase their silence on desperately needed mortgage reform.

In the 2009 special election for Congress in New York’s 23rd district, Gingrich was outspoken in his support of liberal Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava, up to the moment she finally quit the race after conservatives had rallied behind Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman. Long after most prominent conservatives had endorsed Hoffman, Gingrich held firm in his advocacy for a liberal candidate who supported Obama’s stimulus plan and the pro-union “card check” proposal, among other bad positions.
In that NY-23 race, for instance, Gingrich went so far as to attack conservatives who supported Hoffman (whom Gingrich belatedly endorsed himself), saying: “So I say to my conservative friends who suddenly decided that whether they’re from Minnesota or Alaska or Texas, they know more than the upstate New York Republicans? I don’t think so.”

Gingrich also aggressively supported and campaigned for liberal Congressman Wayne Gilchrist (R-MD) when he faced a conservative challenge from current Congressman Andy Harris who won in the primary.

In 2006, Gingrich also backed liberal Congressman Joe Schwarz (R-MI) when he was challenged by the conservative candidate, Congressman Tim Walberg who won in the primary.

01/30/2011 – He suggested that flex-fuel vehicles be mandated for Americans. More support of ethanol subsidies.

02/15/2011 – His book said that he believes man-made climate-change and advocated creating “a new endowment for conservation and the environment.”

03/09/2011 – He blames his pattern of infidelity on working too hard. He said “There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate.”

03/15/2011 – Says in a radio interview that NAFTA worked because it created jobs in Mexico, Canada and on the whole, some in the US.

03/19/2011 – Says he has no regrets about supporting Medicare drug coverage. (Now $7.2T unfunded liability)

04/25/2011 – It was reported that Newt Gingrich earned some $600,000 over several years as a consultant to a major ethanol lobbying group that promoted ethanol subsidies.

08/01/2011 – He said: “I have six times as many Twitter followers as all the other candidates combined, but it didn’t count because if it counted I’d still be a candidate; since I can’t be a candidate that can’t count.” — Newt Gingrich, was complaining that the press was ignoring his prodigious Twitter following, which had numbered over 1.3 million people. More than 90% of those followers, however, turned out to be fake and the result of Gingrich’s campaign hiring a firm to boost his follower count by creating dummy accounts en masse.

2011 – He criticized a House GOP plan introduced by Paul Ryan to restructure Medicare entitlements as “right-wing social engineering”. This undercut a serious conservative proposal to rein in debt and spending.

2011 - Gingrich’s proposes a local “citizens” panel which could provide a form of legal amnesty to some illegal immigrants now in the country. This would effectively grant local jurisdictions like San Francisco the ability to permanently grant amnesty, a huge step forward from their current ability as non-enforcement zones for illegal immigration.

    Gingrich said of himself;

“While I am a Republican leader in the Congress, I do not believe Republicans or the Congress have a monopoly on solving problems and helping America make the transformation necessary to enter the Third Wave information revolution. Democratic mayors like Norquist in Milwaukee and Rendel in Philadelphia are making real breakthroughs at the city level. Some of the best of Vice President Gore’s efforts to reinvent government nibble in the right direction...”

“I have enormous personal ambition. I want to shift the entire planet. And I’m doing it. I am now a famous person. I represent real power.”

“I’m not a natural leader. I’m too intellectual; I’m too abstract; I think too much.”

At least he didn’t create new departments in the Federal government, or elevate the EPA to Cabinet level or vote for the Clean Water Act like another candidate did. How is that for some facts? He also wasn’t dumb enough to buy into global warming, TARP and the need for Ffederally mandated healthcare. Those trump earmarks big time. Buy the way, earmarks are a pittance compared to entitlement spending. Rick led the fight for Welfare Reform in the Senate.

You say yourself that Rick would prefer not to have Romney on the ticket. The rest is just conjecture. Buzz is not fact but lets just pretend that happens. There is not a person running who would would do different, including Newt. Newt would be first in line. Rick at least has core beliefs. Welcome to politics. You’ve heard the saying politics makes strange bedfellows right? The fact is that Rick is in it to win it. That is NOT corruption. Newt would pair with Romney in a hot second if he knew that he would be relevant and in power again.
