In 1979 I went to a mission conference and heard Jim's wife, Elizabeth Elliot speak. It was such an awe inspiring speech I still remember it to this day. She talked about what it means to be a "witness". She told us the story of Jim Elliot, and the missionaries and what it meant to her to go back to Ecuador to finish the work her husband started. Just a tremendous woman and a woman of God.

Bottom line is even some of those who call themselves "conservatives" are at the trough getting money from taxes. My co-worker, a so-called "conservative" has a wife who is a teacher. He couldn't wait to get to the polls to defeat the propositions because "teachers work hard for what they get and they are entitled to their benefits and the Union helps them get those". This same co-worker, who is staunchly anti-abortion, who decries liberalism in our culture, is for lower taxes, supports the military and resents social programs can't wait to get "life time medical benefits" from his wife's teaching career, at no cost to him. He also says adamantly she should do everything she can to draw social security because "she paid into it and is entitled to it".

It is "conservatives" like this who support the status quo in this state. Their hands are in the public trough and I really doubt there is the will to change it. As long as people are benefiting from public funds like this they are not going to change their votes. The problem is systemic and can only be changed by a complete overhaul, which is not going to happen anytime soon.

You hit the nail on the head. He's exactly like Sheehan. He is a media hound, pure and simple. He just wants the attention. He thrives off the negativity he gets in return. He's like the little snot nosed loser kid in school.

The baloney that teachers are not paid well is ridiculous. I have three sisters, all of whom are teachers at the elementary level in CA. All three of them make in excess of $68,000 a year, and this for a 180 day contract. They pay less than $100 a month for their benefits, have lifetime medical when they retire (at no charge), accumulate their sick leave which they can use as an offset and retire early, and do not pay into social security (they do pay into the medi care portion, only).

Grant you, they have been working in their respective districts for over 10 years and all have pursued their master's degrees, but they still far and away make more money than most in private industry when you add in the benefits, at least in this area of the state.

Most people in private industry work 220 to 230 days a year, not 180. Their salaries frankly are the equivelent of somone one making close to $90,000 a year. Oh. and also, their spouse is covered for medical as well AT NO COST TO THEM when they retire.

It's time to stop the gravy train and expose the whiners.

I remember this case. I was getting my bachelor's degree when this scum did the first murder here and I was in my master's degree when he did the second one. I remember thinking at the time this sucker needs to fry hugely! It just ticks me off that we have to wait 25 years for this piece of human garbage to be executed.
