Excellent article. I saw this reported in The Economist and thought it was major news and a breakthrough. I hope others pick up on this. I don't suppose Farrakan will. Why does Rush call him Calypso Louis? Anyone, anyone?

As an economist; you are so right on you should be encased in bronze. The biggest mistake Bush, the younger, has made is the tariff decision. I know, as empirical facts that open border in trade and in labor benefit everyone, and especially the US (only security should be a concern, which, sadly, is now). This one decision, if anything, will be his undoing even if the majority doesn’t understand simple economics. And, I'll even place a bet on it. Anyone want to take me up?

Don't get me wrong, I love GWB, but free-trade is sacrosanct and should never, ever be violated, (even Clinton got religion when he was shown how things really worked). There are powerful interests, and not so powerful, like me, that watch trade legislation like hawks. It’s more powerful than even you intelligent readers give it credit. And the reason is simply: IT MAKES EVERYONE: YES, EVERYONE, BETTER OFF; i.e.: RICHER!

This was even stronger than I would have written, even with the anger that I feel; anger at the contempt that we Americans receive for simply trying to protect ourselves and trying to do the right thing by everyone. We receive no thanks, just contempt from the snooty Old-Worlders who are increasingly becoming a drain on our economy and way of life. Europe is becoming like Islam in that they want to pull others down rather than lift itself and others up. No, wait, the French invented that, the loathing of the bourgeoisie, the achievers, and now cultureless Americans. Islam learned that from the French as they also learned anti-Semitism. These "intellectuals" believe one can only have self-respect if one is lazy, and has disdain for everyone else that picks one's self up out of the mire. Sadly, Europe can't afford intellectuals like these, or it's current vast welfare state, or adequate defense without suckling at the teat of the US economy. It's a luxury which we in the U.S. can't afford to subsidize anymore. The European ingrates have finally pushed most Americans to the point where we feel it's time to cut the umbilical cord.

Great, great editorial. I'd like the negative responders he'll get to email me and I'll give them another round of truth, or as they would see it, "simplistic" views without historical European context, blah, blah, blah. Let me explain to them about simplistic, uneducated views which lead countries to poverty and ruin.

    Regards,
    Clark

Dam#, this is GOOD! It went even further than I would. We do let them act like equals and we have been subsidizing them, but I'd never quit made the dependency connection. Perhaps it's time to cut the ombilical cord. My mother and I are both stronger for it.

Thanks, I went to the site and sent an email to the MODERATORS which I'll post. Anyway, everyone can opine on this idiot if they like at the email below. It would be great to deluge this freak. I've seen the video (there's a link at the above mtv site) and it is truly offensive. He deserves to be flamed. Email this: editorial.communities@uk.tisca li.com

This is what I wrote them:
    MTV:

George Michael's new video is a pathetic attempt be controversial and revive a flagging career after he sickened most of his audience by performing sex acts in public toilets. Imagine the images this provoked in the buying public; a middle-aged, overweight, sad and lonely man as a predator in public.

Oh, how fame and fortune turn people into megalomaniacs. If only he wouldn't open his mouth and prove just how uneducated, ignorant, and patently stupid he really is. George Michael could have a decent career, but now, he may go down as a sad footnote of an artist who didn't stick to his craft, poked his nose where he's clearly in over his head, and managed to offend the two largest markets in the entire world. What a certifiable idiot.

And then this statement tops it off: "I would never knowingly disrespect the feelings of a nation which has suffered so much loss, so recently," He must think we're as stupid as he is. Oh, no, we're not offended at you demeaning our president who has an approval rating that is unmatched in history. What, he only wants to offend the British? Who wouldn't be offended at the portrayal of Tony Blair? Good God, George Michael is an idiot!

    Regards,
    Clark

This guy really infuriates me. Celebrities only hurt themselves when they open their mouths and prove just how really stupid they are. Hardly any of them have any education to speak of, but their regarded as caring EXPERTS. B.S!

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET A MESSAGE TO HIM, HIS MANAGEMENT, OR ANYWHERE WHERE I CAN POST MY INVECTIVES?

I think Drudge would happily take the credit, and in this case it seems he's sharing the credit where it is due, this forum. Drudge loves controversy and he even includes the negative stuff about him that I'd have a hard time posting on my own site. So, he loves the fact that he and this forum can provoke such a huge response. As it should be!

Here's my reply to Brucie-Boy sent today after first becoming aware of what he's written and then his defense:

F*** you! How's that for an invective?

Generally we like the Aussies, because they're not pansies, but you give them a bad name. We don't sit around all day rubbing our hands about your president; we're too busy trying to create more wealth for you to consume off of our backs.

I think the real problem with you is that you're a Socialist and your ideas have been proven wrong again and again, but then empirical evidence doesn't matter to those baptized into a religion of feelings rather than results. You Socialists are far worse than red-necks. At least red-necks pull their own weight. (Gee, I wonder if the whole continent of Australia wouldn't be considered red-neck country). I'd watch who you pick a fight with Brucie-boy.

    Love and kisses, Aussie-b****,
