  • Why Dems rule the city -- Republicans, the outer ring

I used think Mpls. was a quiet, nicer city than my husband’s home base of Chicago, not so much anymore. I think we are seeing a lot of the segregation predicted in the Bell Curve book. The U of MN is an incredibly hostile place to non-liberals. The head of the academic health center just sent out an email to the whole AHC talking about how relieved he was after the election and how he was happy that John McCain was willing to work with them. Lake and Hiawatha? And you’re still alive?

Minnesota’s nominating Al Franken is a very sorry state of affairs. We moved way out to the outer ring suburbs of Minnesota to get away from the crime and insanity of the city and somebody bought the house across the street and starting growing pot in it. How far do we and our kids have to move to get away from this type of trash? (I’m originally from Iowa and I would move back in a heartbeat if we could both get good jobs there.) The public schools are a disaster. The whole place is only step away from being California.
Intolerance is the order of the day in the Twin Cities - closet conservatives are everywhere if you figure out who they are. In this kind of economic crisis, a job is precious so you can’t afford for your friends or co-workers to find out you don’t agree with their radical, socialist ideas.

I am also heartbroken. I cannot sleep and yes I am clinging to my religion right now. I do not know how I will look my three children in the eye in the morning knowing we are facing at least four years of economic hardship. As a dual income family, we fall into Obama's category of the rich by attempting to create a better life for ourselves and our children. I never wanted to believe the stories about the next generation being worse off, but now I do.
