  • “Deniers” in their midst – All is not well in Nobel Prize Land

    WUWT ^ | July 7, 2015 | Anthony Watts
A couple of days ago we reported on the Mainau Nobel Conference, on Friday, 3 July, over 30 Nobel laureates assembled on Mainau Island on Lake Constance signed a declaration on climate change. Problem was, there were 65 attendees, and only 30 signed the declaration. As is typical of the supression of the alternate views on climate, we never heard the opinion of the 35 who were in the majority. Today, one of the nobel laureates who was an attendee has spoken out. ... Nobel Prize Winning Physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever: ‘Global warming is a non-problem’ ‘I say this to...
  • About the Fourth of July and ISIS – from a friend who is a police officer, and a ‘spook’

I realize this is way off-topic of the usual fare for WUWT, but I’d be remiss in my duty as a patriot and an American if I didn’t at least pass it on so that it will get wide distribution. One of my Facebook friends is a police officer who I’ve learned to listen to. He passes this on to me, and I’m passing it on to you as a public service. Take caution, be aware, and don’t let these extremists ruin your 4th of July holiday.

Dear Reader (and Sid Blumenthal who, like some albino monk in a Dan Brown novel, feels that this is your time to defend the faith from the infidel menace and their horrifying reliance on truth, facts, and logic), So this may be my last “news”letter. We had some good times, didn’t we? I’m not sure what I’ll miss more: The thoughtful e-mails from really smart people offering me insights that never would have occurred to me? Among the entries in a 1999 anthology called The Best American Sports Writing of the Century is a profile of Ty Cobb (1886-1961). It was originally published in True magazine the year of Cobb’s death. The writer, Al Stump, recalls the last, bleak days of the great ballplayer’s life and makes him into a bitter, violent, alcoholic monster. In one passage, he describes a visit to the graveyard in the town of Royston, Georgia, where Cobb had grown up. Cobb wanted Stump, who was ghostwriting his autobiography, to go with him, on Christmas Eve, to see where he would soon...

Renee Zellweger debuted an entirely different face Monday night, leaving fans and entertainment industry experts wondering why the “Bridget Jones” star looked so different. A close confidante of Zellweger’s told FOX411 that her drastically different look is a result of the 45-year-old actress’ insecurities.

To say there is a decline in the quality of the screenwriting and production values would be an understatement. I know there was a Kickstarter movement at one point to raise some geetis (and faux outrage, apparently). And the producers have admitted that Parts I and II did not make a profit. But great jumping dust bunnies, this thing makes Plan Nine from Outer Space look like the original specs for the Apollo 11 moon launch.

A mentally disturbed man is wandering through traffic outside New York’s Police Authority Bus Terminal. Naturally, the NYPD open fire. They miss the guy. However, the sidewalks being full of people, they manage to hit two female pedestrians, one of them already using a walker, which comes in handy when the coppers shoot you in the leg.

The chairman of Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential campaign is refusing to answer questions about allegations the campaign paid for endorsements before the Iowa caucuses last year. Jesse Benton, a longtime Paul aide who is now campaign manager for Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, has not replied to requests for comment after an audio recording surfaced whereby an Iowa state senator, Kent Sorenson, admitted he had received a $30,000 check from high-level Paul campaign official, accepting the money in exchange for switching his support from Michele Bachmann to Ron Paul. Sorenson also said that Benton was aware of the transaction

Eight women from the National Women’s Veterans Association of America (NWVAA) have now stepped forward to allege that San Diego mayor Bob Filner has sexually harassed them, CNN reports. The NWVAA was formed as a safe haven for military sexual-assault victims, and almost all of the women who have now stepped forward were victims of such behavior while in the military. They allege that Filner used his position as a chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to gain access to victims of military sexual assault because they were less likely to complain.

Once home to 10,000 hungry prospectors, each with a golden glint in their eye, these are the ruins of the town of Bannack - now a ghostly shell of its gilded past. Founded in 1862 as the first territorial capital of Montana, the abandoned and silent town still boasts 60 structures - all of which can be explored by history lovers of the Old West. Built along the banks of Grasshopper Creek, at its peak Bannack's Main Street had three hotels, three bakeries, three blacksmith shops, two stables, a grocery store, a restaurant, a billiard hall and of course, four...

Politics can seem frustratingly complex. It can be a challenge to grasp that the targeting of conservatives by Internal Revenue Service officials over the last few years constitutes a genuine scandal, while the lawful activities of employees of the National Security Agency do not. It can be a strain to distinguish the illegitimate and arbitrary use of government power to harass American citizens exercising their constitutional rights from the legitimate use of government power to protect the nation from our enemies abroad. It can be an effort to differentiate patriotic whistleblowers who expose governmental abuse from anti-American lawbreakers who expose...

What separated the likes of Huelskamp and Amash from Labrador and Mulvaney was not opposition to budget compromises. The big, obvious difference in their voting records is that Huelskamp and Amash flip-flopped on the budget written by Paul Ryan and voted with Democrats to kill it in committee. The Ryan budget, which had been hailed in 2011 by Rush Limbaugh as “substantively superb and politically brilliant,” squeaked through the Budget Committee in 2012 on a 19-18 vote.
