Does condescending arrogance and verbal bullying work for you in real life?

Just curious. Where I live, it would get your rear end placed somewhere between yor shoulder blades. There is no excuse for bad manners.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage." Alexander Tyler (When the thirteen colonies were still a part of England, Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian republic over two thousand years previous to that time)

I agree, but the spendthrift Republicans in office know this, too, which is why they continue to spend money like drunken sailors. I don't know the answer, either, but what good is the GOP if they're just going to be fiscal Democrats?
I feel the author's pain and share his concern.

  • Can You Believe in God and Evolution?

The distinction is whether you are talking about any god, or if you're talking about the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible can do antyhting He pleases, but has chosen to limit himself to His word, so that we man know him and trush him. Since, as mentioned before, biblical death was not introduced into the world until the sin of Adam and Eve, and since evolution requires a continual life cycle of birth, mutation, and death, then the two ideas are at odds. Furthermore, if in fact there was death in the world before Adam, then the bible is wrong about sin, and if it is wrong about sin, then it is wrong about the need for a savior. Jesus then becomes unnecessary and irrelevant.

As I see it, evolution is an idea advanced precisely to replace God. Evolution states in it's elemental form that time + energy + space = mass, and mass given enough time yields life. The Bible says "In the beginning (time) God (intelligence) created (energy) the heavens and the earth (mass). He later created Adam.

The only things missing from the secular view is intelligence and and ongoing interest of the Creator in preserving his creation. Since all ordered systems go from order to randomness if left on their own, it would take supernatural intervention to merely preserve the creation, much less cause it to increase in complexity and overcome the problems created by initial mutations of a species necessary for evolution.

    Just my opinion, of course.

The left has been killing itself since the 1970s. It is collapsing under the weight of it's own self indulgence. The top-heavy presence of radical groups who have co-opted liberalism and made it their own are only serving to make sure they make the left sink faster and deeper.

Look for the shocking expose by the press that she slept with Judge Roberts next.

These guys ought to thank (insert secular substitute for the Almighty here) for the war, as it gives them a platform for their futile search for relevance, parrotted by a willing (and a curiously incurious and sympatheic) press.

"And please don't say that this right is what our young men are dying for. That right and Iraq have absolutely NO commonality.

It's sad that you can't see the larger picture. The ONLY way this stuff is ever going to stop is by dragging 12th century Islamic thinking into the 21st century. Iraq provided an opportunity to gain a foothold in a region desperately in need of transformation (which the UN ignored, I may add). This is what happened to Japan, Germany, and other countries around the world who previously viewed violence and conquest as a way to achieve their goals. Only this tim it is worse, with more at stake, because while our enemies in WW2 were driven by nationalism, this time they are driven by religion, and because of it, they will never stop uinless made to. The best way to stop them is to create democratic and free societies with the free exchange of commerce, information, and personal ownership. They will only stop when they have more to lose than they have to gain by blowing the crap out of everyone with whom they disagree. Democracies generally don't kill each other.

To think that Iraq is not tied to the war on terror is myopic at best, and represents the worst in isolationist thinking which led to the tragedies of WW2 in the first place.

What, exactly, is it about radical Islamists which leads you to believe that if we just leave them alone, they'll ignore us?

It's becoming clearer by the day how unhinged they are becoming, democrats in general and liberals in particular. The sheer hubris in the attitude of "hey, we're so incredibly brilliant, and right, and morally superior, that the only way we could possibly lose is to have the election stolen, or by Republicans cheating somehow, or because of the brainwashed Christian fundies, or..."

It's amusing, amzing, and unbelievable to watch, all at the same time.

Holy cow. This is just another shining example of the extent to which democrats will go to decieve themselves about why they are losing. It couldn't have been the handwringing over the hostages for 400 plus days, the gas lines, the double digit inflation to accompany the double digit interest rates. No, it had to be....George Will!

    Long may it continue.

This is an intersting discussion, but it dodges the real issue. The main point of Genesis in not the creation or how it came about, but rather the separation of man from God through sin. According to Genesis, death entered the world through man's disobedience. If evolution is a fact, even if set in motion by an 'intelligent designer', then there had to be death in the world before man. If that is so, then sin becomes irrelevant as the cause of death, and the writer of Genesis is sadly mistaken. No sin, no need for a savior, and you end up with just another explanation for a secular origin, dressed up in a more palatable theory for the faithful.

For secularists, the concepts of sin and redemption must be expunged from our culture. To get Christians or Jews to accept that Genesis is wrong, when it is the basic platform on which rests our subsequent relationship with God, is the first and most important step in doing away with Judeo/Christianity altogether.

People of faith ought not be so gullible as to try to have it both ways: Either God is active and personally and intimately interested and involved in His creation, or He is not, and merely set the whole thing in motion and left the rest to chance. But it can't be both, IMO. Otherwise, prayer would be a waste of time, asking God to intervene in that which he has chosen to allow to follow it's own course.

(Of course, I could be full of crap, too!)

I watched it since the beginning, and had to stop two thirds of the way through last season. There just wans't anyone with any redeeming values, quite frankly. No one was likeable, and every character had truly hideous qualities which one may find in one out of a hundred people in real life. And the relentless homosexuality was just too much. True to form, Hollywood cannot just be content with presenting a gay viewpoint and letting the reciever make up his or her own mind; no, it must beat us over the head with it until we relent.

Good riddance to well executed dreck.
