COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.
Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.
At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.
Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.
And we know what a 3rd party will give us, thank you mr.perot.
I am certainly not a blame-America-firster, and would never support same - just one reason of many I’m not a Democrat.
Yet I agree with Paul’s position that there are consequences to intervening all over the world. As just one example - bin Laden would not be a jihadist if we/NATO hadn’t bankrolled and supplied the mujahaddeen in Afghanistan.
I think many of RP’s positions are somewhat misunderstood by most because they don’t fit into 1 minute soundbites.
There I fixed it for you.
How can Ron Paul lose his Texas seat? The democrats have gerrymandered his district so that it is basically a Dem. district. Despite this, Ron Paul still gathers 60% of the vote! WHY? Because Ron Paul (1) educates his constituents about their constitutional rights; (2) keeps his promises; and (3) doesn’t flip flop.
Gotta give the man props for having diehard supporters. Any politician would kill for this kind of support.

To use the usual rhetoric we hear around here: Why would you help Clinton win?
I hope you're wrong FRiend.
I can easily envision young people being energized to enter politics to carry on the message of liberty that Dr. Paul sparked in their hearts.
He may not win a single primary but he's already won by getting his message out to millions of Americans. A new generation of Constitutionalists is being born this election season. It's quite exciting to see it!
Are you under the mistaken belief that by out-fundraising Duncan Hunter or anybody else on a single day or even a month or a quarter means that Ron Paul is going somewhere? It just means a bunch of people are going to be $6M poorer since they blew their money on a losing bet.
Seriously, you know that Paul has a ceiling in the GOP and in America don’t you? Its a ceiling which is far, far lower the the bar necessary to win a primary. Pauls’ only exit strategy is to go third party and he can do that knowing that it will mean electoral failure for his followers and whoever the GOP candidate is since it could allow a demoncrat nominee to win with well under 50% of the vote. Which is how we got 8 years of Clinton.
The anti-war vote ain’t very deep in the GOP. And the anti-war voters outside the GOP are not just anti-war but anti-military and anti-US so Paul isn’t going to get those votes either.
Unlike Perot’s crowds, Paul’s crowds are many! As I said, a small group of 100 turned into a 1,000-person throng for the Santa Monica Tea Party. Take a look at MeetUp.com; Ron Paul has more MeetUp Groups than the other Rep/Dem candidates combined. Small? I don’t think so.
I appreciate the odds (10-1) but I don’t bet on anything. Thanks just the same.
There is a lady who was featured on www.ronpaul2008.com who is a home-schooling mom and has started Home Schoolers for Ron Paul. After all, RP does support home-schooling.
My congrats to your daughter on her astuteness in being able to pick the right candidate - Ron Paul!
You can fix it when he wants to protect America. Right now all he wants to do is surrender to the terrorists. He is intent on appeasing the terrorists, not defeating them.
We need oil idiot. That’s why we are in the Middle East. When we leave the MidEast like you idiots want us to...that’s when the Russians and Chinese take over along with the Persians
You are infants with zero understanding how world power works. You are squalling children who can’t handle lousy effed up situations. You just want to run away and think your mommy and daddy will make things turn out fine.
That’s not how world oil and energy works — Idiots
Actually you disgust me
Not according to the over 1000 articles and essays posted at www.ronpaullibrary.org
“To use the usual rhetoric we hear around here: Why would you help Clinton win?”
because ron paul is the moveon.org candidate, and if republicans are stupid enough to nominate him. I’ve got no further business with y’all.

Kinda makes you wonder how on earth the Swiss are able to buy oil without being "in" the Middle East.
It doesn't matter who owns the Middle East. They have to sell the oil for it to do them any good. If they don't sell it to us who is going to take up the slack? China? Russia? I doubt it.
He is? Got proof?
Since when has moveon.org supported candidates that would shrink the federal government, get it out of our business, and lower taxes?
Oh, that's right . . . they never have, and they never will.
Isn't 90% of what you want good enough in a candidate?
Yeah, I do have problems with that.
My hope (ha!) is that by Nov 08 we are so far ahead of the terrorists in winning the WOT in Iraq that it doesn’t much matter :)
