I didn't see anything I'd classify as scurrilous. I did. And I've had my say, and he's had his say, and for my part, at least, it's over.
But thanks for the reminder to be civilised. It's easy to forget on this forum.

<>Why is it that it is always the losers in the congregation who want to sing off-key solos
Because they're willing?
Because God doesn't really care about your musical talent, when your heart is right with Him?
While Cyrano and I hope, pray, and strive to pull the most out of our church's singers and musicians as they can muster and more, by example, teaching, and encouragement, a willing heart is much preferable to professional perfectionism from a heart in bondage to pride. And no matter how nicely you go about it someone is also rude enough to criticize harshly those that offer up their musical gifts out of love for God and his people.

Okay!! Thanks for clarifying what you said, I am not out to get anyone--we are all one body looking to serve the same God who loves us all very much.

Have you noticed the number of women and girls who have started wearing colorful kerchiefs on their heads? At least they do out here.
To: Desdemona
I'll have to try that.

Umm, the church offers therapy for free. Umm, the church puts you on a never-ending guilt trip. Nothing you ever do, nothing you ever think is good enough to please their God. We sin when we get up in the morning, we sin all day long, we sin when we go to bed at night. It is not sinful to be human and to think and feel things others don't think and feel.
It all boils down to brain chemicals working properly. If your brain chemicals are fully charged, you don't care if fairies fly over the altar during mass. You only care about those things when you are depressed and crabby.

When they clap, they're not clapping for God -- they're clapping for themselves. It takes the focus off of God during the time we're supposed to be worshipping him, not ourselves. What? What? What?

You know, doctrine is nice, but the words of Christ reveal even his frustration with church leaders who insisted that rite, ritual, and traditional practice were to be preferred before meeting human need or Godly relationship. Since you're advocating the replacement of Catholic liturgical rites with the liturgical rites of January24, you're promoting liturgical doctrine. Does this make you a Pharisee too? Are your liturgical doctines infallible?

Though it has been a problem, having only altar boys has nothing to do with homosexuality.
No, you take a hike with your outdated ideas that have brought nothing but scandal, lawsuits, and depraved 'priests' who are coddled and sheltered from justice. It's time the Vatican join the 19th century.

It takes the focus off of God during the time we're supposed to be worshipping him, not ourselves.I'm amazed at how succinctly people on this thread think they can speak to the motivations of other people's hearts and the intent of their minds. Jesus tells us that the Father wants people who worship in spirit and in truth. It doesn't matter what the music is and clapping neither makes it worship nor excludes in from being so.

>> How far back do you want to go with "innovation"? So much has been added to the Last Supper. The early church would gather, hear a word (They didn't have holy Canon, or a priest, so who knows what they talked about?)
O yes they did! Perhaps your bible leaves certain terms untranslated (Presbyter is where we get the word for priest.).
Where did you get these presumptions? Read the Didache ("[the writing of] the twelve"). Written in the first century (some insist by the apostles themselves), it describes how to conduct a Eucharistic service. It was probably left out of the canon, because it addressed not doctrine, but practice. It is *not* one of those new-agey gnostic "gospels," or pseudoepigraphia. Paul cites it in a couple of his letters.; and the Church fathers quoted it often.
