Maine's Congressman Mike Michaud, a man of courage.

It has been over one hundred and thirty years since Maine has had a politician whose word you could trust. It has been over 130 years since Major General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain walked the halls of Maine politics and it has been that long since we have had a man whose honesty, integrity and courage emulated Governor Chamberlain.

Look at today's crop of Maine politicians, we have as governor one John E. Baldacci, a man who cries, complains and accuses President Bush of forcing the No child left behind act on Maine, yet as Maine's Democratic congressman from the Second Congressional District, he voted for the Kennedy sponsored No Child Left behind Act.

We have Republicans Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe representing us in the US Senate. I have letters on file from both of them, were each claims to be pro-life and opposed to late term abortions, yet, both have never voted to ban partial birth abortions in the ninth month. And even worse, both voted to uphold former president Bill Clinton's veto of the ban when it was passed twice during his eight years. Had they voted pro-life for the baby in the womb, president Clinton's veto would have been overridden. They like Governor Baldacci have learned well the lesson of lying with a straight face.

In the Gospel recorded by the Apostle Matthew, Jesus tells us that it is not easy to do that which is right. He tells us that the path to lies, deceit , and wrong is wide, yet the path to honesty, courage, integrity and right is narrow: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13&14)

Congressman Mike Michaud, the freshman congressman from the second congressional district of Maine, a Democrat, has shown the courage to do that which is right. He has shown the courage to vote as he said he would. Mike voted yes to ban partial birth abortion on the night of June 4th, 2003.

The vote was 282 to139, ending once and for all the horrific practice of delivering a baby in the ninth month feet first, only to kill that baby just before his or her little head is fully delivered. Mike was one of only 62 Democrats to vote to end this infanticide, he was, to the best of my knowledge, the only Democratic freshman congressman to vote to ban partial birth abortion, he was the only member of Maine's congressional delegation to vote to end partial birth abortion, and he is the first member of Congress or the Senate from Maine to vote pro-life in over 30 years.

Mike, like Governor Chamberlain, did what was right, not what was politically expedient. Mike stood up to the unbelievable pressure from within the democratic party and Maine's pro-abortion delegation, he stood up and proudly cast his vote for life. He showed the courage, the honestly and the integrity to put the life of the baby in the womb ahead of his own political fortunes.

1.970 years ago, Jesus stood up to the wrongs of the world, He was beat, spat upon, crucified and murdered to give us a way to life eternal. What Mike did is not in the same league with what the Lord did, but like the Lord, Mike will take a beating for his vote to let the baby live. Mike will be beaten up by the leadership of his party, and the other members of Maine's congressional delegation. But as the Lord did what was right so did Mike.

May our Lord Jesus look upon Mike and smile, may He help Mike to stay pro-life, may He give Mike the courage to do what is right in the face of overwhelming pressure to do wrong. And May our Lord and Saviour, Messiah Yeshua give Mike the knowledge of eternal salvation the understanding and knowledge of what He did on the cross 1,970 years ago last April for Mike.

It takes little courage for a Republican to vote pro-life, it takes a ton of courage for a freshman democrat to vote pro-life.

It probably would take Collins and Snowe a lot of courage to vote against any anti-abortion measure, because probably every one they know is pro-choice.

I think they are just both anti life pro abortion. olympia is known around here as the queen of infanticide.

Neither snowe nor collins is pro-choice, they are pro-abortion, plain and simple.

Collins and Snowe probably reflect the opinion of their social class. I would guess that 80% of the well-to-do people in the United States are pro-abortion, to a greater or lesser degree. It would be interesting to get a list of her Maine contributors and determined how they feel about the abortion issue.

He shows both honor and courage. He'll probably have a short life in politics.

I don't think so, Mike has a solid reputation in Maine as pro-life and pro-gun. Today I heard no fewer than five people opening discussing him against sone in a couple of years.

Snowe shot herself in the foot big time by voting agaisnt the President on the tax pcut package. While Mike would have voted agasint it as well, she has burnt the bridges of Pro-lifers, pro-gunners and now pro-tax cutters. She lost the Christian vote years ago.
