Personally, I like these threads.
Please ping me when they come around.

Someone above pointed out that the thread I"m thinking of was probably called, "Calvinism VS Arminianism."

biblical qualifications for elder.
Yep. I could get into that. Let's search for a good article. If you find one and post it, ping me. I'll do the same.

If I may jump in on this:
Titus 1
5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
10 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. 11 They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 12 One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons. 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
So, can an elder partake in an alcoholic drink, so long as he doesn't become drunk?

Sure. He may also choose to refrain either for conscience sake or to avoid causing a weaker brother to stumble. In any case God's glory should be preeminent in his choice.

What? I would say Christ believed predestination when he said YOU DID NOT CHOOSE ME, BUT I CHOSE YOU.

While I consider my Arminian brothers believers, that does not mean I consider them correct on this ESSENTIAL issue. This is not small peanuts. One's belief on predestination hinges on the very nature of God and whether God is God. That is serious stuff and hardly a small matter.

Some try to claim it refers only to the disciples. While certainly he is speaking to his disciples, obviously he is referring to their selection as FOLLOWERS of him, which necessitates that it involve their SOUL'S CONVERSION as well, their salvation in the spiritual sense, not just a literal selection to be disciples (especially when it refers to being ordained to bring forth fruit, which only can come after being saved). Thus, I think it is abundantly clear it applies to us as well, as we are his disciples and saved ones and Scripture is written for us, not the early disciples. The Ephesians verse (I think that is it) which talks of being predestined to conform to the image of Him and do good works is a nice parallel I think that gives support to the idea that the verse has to involve us as well.
