borromew, great post. Every Catholic who is interested in cleaning up this festering cancer needs to read it. But lately I am wondering just how many Catholics care. To read the threads on FR it looks like Catholics are much more interested in fighting with each other and then Protestants and getting into long, interminable arguments about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Judith Reismann has done a yeoman's job in pointing the bishops and good Catholics in the right direction.
maryz.,I pinged you because a long time ago I told you that I had read the Doyle,Mouttan and Peterson report and thought it was confusing and also looked to me like they were marketing themselves to the Church. I commented that I could see why the bishops may not have paid much attention. Read what she writes,it seems that indeed they were both confusing and marketing.
Yendu, thought you might find this interesting, print it out and send it to your bishop, who to me seems like a first class awful person and a shepherd, who deliberately scattered his sheep.

You might want to send this to the Magisterial Fidelity staff (or person). It's dynamite and should give her a lot of ammunition with these VOTF wolves in sheep's clothing. their disengenuousness is so offensive. You might also want to send it to the Globe to print since they are so desirous of cleaning up the Church.Hoho.
I thought the information on McHugh was praticularly chilling with respect to the stacked "citizens" committee appointed by the bishops, what a dam joke they were. He is even worse than the known weak links (Pannetta and Bennett).
Every once in a while I hear the name Flynn (archbishop of St. Paul) come up as a possible replacement for Law. He is a bad one. I bet he was on the committee that selected these rotten "citizens".

How did we get to this point? Every priest I knew in the '50s said that such therapy was quackery.

Yes, I was thinking of your earlier post when I read what Reisman had to say about the report. (Doyle, however, seems to be dining out on his connection with the report -- nearly every newspaper story I see quotes him somewhere!)
I do recall a story that ran in the Boston Herald near the beginning of the scandal last year -- a psychologist (apparently a sane one) reviewed a textbook used in one of these "training/therapy" centers and said (quoting from memory), "My God! This is psychobabble -- it's a how-to manual for sex offenders!"
