[history]
The Roman Catholic bishop of Arlington has told a local priest that he will be permanently suspended from the diocese for obeying a subpoena to testify in a civil lawsuit about another priest's adultery with a parishioner's wife.
Bishop Paul S. Loverde informed the Rev. James R. Haley in an Oct. 28 formal notice that he is being removed for violating a gag order a year ago, which barred him from disclosing wrongdoing by priests in order "to avoid scandal, to maintain ecclesiastical discipline and to protect the reputation and privacy of both the faithful and priests of this diocese."

Media coverage of a public protest in front of Bishop Loverde's office might be an idea worth considering.

Here are a few rhetorical questions and comments presented only to let me vent.
Why didn't they tell me in RCIA that the U.S. Roman Catholic Bishops are mostly a bunch of miscreant jackals?
Why do the jackals (Bishops) insist on hiding their actions from the light of day? What are they hiding? They must be hiding something.
What's wrong with the Roman Catholic culture that it spews forth such arrogant, un-Godly sissy-boy "leaders"? There don't appear to be more than a handful of real men in the U.S. bishoprics. I thought only men could be Priest's and Bishops.
99%+ of Catholic theology is beautiful and sound, but it sure looks to me that over the last 2,000 years there has been more than a little injection of "doctrine" designed solely to protect the power of the old-boys network also know as the "Catholic hierarchy". To think otherwise, one would have to be incredibly naive. I believe that the Holy Spirit does guide the Roman Catholic Church, but I now also believe that Satan guides many of the "men" who are supposed to lead it.

In Pittsburgh, its "y'ins guyz," and they proudly ask each other, "Are you a "y'inzer?" Here in the Laural Highlands of PA its "youz guys". Yinz guys don't say "yinz" up in the mahntins?

I do think that Chancellor is a retread
I read this line twice before my mind actually read it as retread and not retard. But I think you're right either way...
Ive heard that really clever writers can make you do that . . .

I'm a cradle and I want to know the same thing.
It's not Catholic culture per se, but what a few decided to do to the priesthood.

Palpatine is absolutely correct. The term is "y'all" for "you all."

We live in a world of hierarchy. The dirty laundry that is revealed in this deposition has many parallels in every institution Abuse of authority, covering up happens every day. Why do you think lawyers are so cynical? None of this stuff comes out except during a controversy, but lawyers live in controversy and it is all there, available to the pubic. But the public is unaware of it, except when a scandal sheet brings it to light. On the other hand, we must look at the other side. In fact, we ought to look at the many different sides of this issue. Listen to the witnesses, read the depositions. But understand that the main desire of a judge who hears these cases is to clear his docket, and the best way to do this is to throw out evidence that makes the case hard. That is why there is so much enphasis on technicality. This case was ended because it was not pressed in a timely manner, That sure makes life easy for the judges, who must otherwise be forced to confront a situation he really cannot resolve and which poses certain risks to his career.

Well, many people actually say "YOO-All," but not in the way that an actor affecting a Southern accent would pronounce it. More like "Yu-ALL."

Did the bishop expect him to disobey a legal subpeona? This is hardly the confidentiality of the confessional here. Very odd, this.

"My guess is that rampant homosexual activity will continue in the priesthood for many years to come"
My guess is that the celestial spanking (enroute?) will fix this problem among others.
To: Polycarp
In Pittsburgh, its "y'ins guyz," and they proudly ask each other, "Are you a "y'inzer?" No, no, no. It's always just "y'ins." "Y'ins guys" is sort of redundant.

Pretty bad stuff, but it sounds worse because it is describing the "literature" of a priest. What borhers me, however, is that Haley seems obscessed and I can't figure out exactly why because I can't quite orchestrate the sequence of events. Have to read again about his own problem in '95. Was it or was it not because he was already prying? Did you get that?

"I can see now why Fr. Haley was suspended. He names all the names"
I hope one of the good Bishops grabs him under his wing before he is pushing up daisies! The way this entire scandal episode of the Church is being managed has dangerous implications for holy priests. Who knows if a car accident is 6 months down the road for Fr.Haley. I'm still boggled that Bishop Keating died in Rome on the annual trek.

I sure hope they nail this Loverde for witness-tampering. He is a disgrace to the Church!

Yes, these bishops are just like the Soviets, who called in "psychologists" to evaluate and send dissenters to the Gulag. I am so disgusted with these overstuffed venal ugly men who call themselves bishops.

Your posts sound an aweful lot like another Freeper who was banned this spring and went by the screen name "No_particular_harbor" (if I remember correctly.)One_particular_harbour was his name, and I'm truly sorry he was banned; this is the first I've heard of it. He posted here through September. I'm doubly sorry he was banned if that occurred because of his justifiable anger toward the Catholic Church.
Palpatine is just ranting and raving; harbour had a reason for his angry posts.
The Catholic Church has a long way to go to regain any kind of credibility in its dealings with the victims of priestly sexual abuse.

One_Particular_Harbor has not been banned. You can do a search on his name and it's still there.
I believe he felt he was being stalked by another Freeper and had his postings pulled and removed his home page.
I agree Sinkspur, oph was justifiably angry with the Catholic church, but he was awful funny on other threads.
I miss him....

Fr. Haley, the priest who had uncovered sexual and financial corruption in 3 consecutive parishes to which he was assigned. This is truly sad. Is there some way we can show support for Father Haley?

I still say the members of the Arlington diocese need to be FReeping Bishop Loverde constantly........letting him know that he is acting without cause and that Father Haley is the one to be trusted in this case.
