Our thread in search of a patron saint for Catholic FReepers was a marvelous revelation. We have such a rich heritage as Catholics, that the possibilities are limitless. Although it is strictly unofficial (and no one elected me Pope) I would like to declare that we do indeed have a patron saint:
"Gloria in Excelsis Deo"
And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host, praising
God, and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men of good will."
To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Please add me to your Catholic bump list. Thank you. :-)
Since joining the Legion of Mary my favorite prayer is the Hail, Holy Queen.
To Jesus Through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
MudPuppy, MI
Sing of Mary, pure and lowly,
Virgin Mother undefiled;
sing of God's own Son most holy,
who became her little child.
Fairest child of fairest Mother,
God the Lord who came to earth,
Word made flesh, our very brother,
shares our nature by his birth.
Sing of Jesus, son of Mary,
in the home at Nazareth,
toil and labor cannot weary
love enduring unto death.
Constant was the love he gave her,
though he went forth from her side,
forth to preach, and heal, and suffer
till on Calvary he died.
Sing of Mary, sing of Jesus,
holy Mother's holier Son.
From his throne in heaven he sees us,
thither calls us every one,
where he welcomes home his Mother
to a place at his right hand,
there his faithful servants gather,
there the crownèd victors stand.
Joyful Mother, full of gladness,
in thine arms thy Lord was borne.
Mournful Mother, full of sadness,
all thy heart with pain was torn.
Glorious Mother, now rewarded
with a crown at Jesus' hand,
age to age thy name recorded
shall be blessed in every land.
Glory be to God the Father;
glory be to God the Son;
glory be to God the Spirit;
glory to the Three in One.
From the heart of Blessèd Mary,
from all saints the song ascends,
and the Church the strain reechoes
unto earth's remotest ends.------------------------

Mother of Christ, Mother of Christ What shall I ask of thee? I do not sigh for the wealth of the earth For the joys that fade and flee; But, Mother of Christ, Mother of Christ This do I long to see, The Bliss untold which thine arms enfold The treasure upon thy knee. Mother of Christ, Mother of Christ, Mother of Christ, Mother of Christ |
(Mine, as well as the beautiful images ... I shall have a letter to you shortly and -- if you and Neocon can help me find a more suitable forum software to get us started -- we'll have ConSpiratio up and running.)
Shall we not love thee, Mother dear,
whom Jesus loves so well?
And to his glory year by year
thy joy and honor tell?
Bound with the curse of sin and shame
we helpless sinners lay,
until in tender love he came
to bear the curse away.
And thee he chose from whom to take
true flesh his flesh to be;
in it to suffer for our sake,
by it to make us free.
Thy Babe he lay upon thy breast,
to thee he cried for food;
thy gentle nursing soothed to rest
the incarnate Son of God.
O wondrous depth of grace divine
that he should bend so low!
And, Mary, O what joy 'twas thine
in his dear love to know!
Joy to be Mother of the Lord,
and thine the truer bliss,
in every thought and deed and word
to be for ever his.
And as he loves thee, Mother dear,
we too will love thee well;
and to his g lory year by year
thy joy and honor tell.
Jesus, the Virgin's holy Son,
we praise thee and adore,
who art with God the Father One
and Spirit evermore.-------------------------
