The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Well it only took ya 16 hours to say they should be removed from the priesthood.

Wrong on this one, Steven. Dave posted this yesterday:

Of coruse, sick perverted priests should be removed. Duh.

The first laws of England to be set down in writing were in Latin.

"do you consider the writings of the church fathers to be authoritative?"

When in agreement with Scripture, yes

OK, now what about ventana's question?

Do you have scriptural proof that these sayings are correct?

Are the quotes you posted authoritative? Do they themselves agree with scripture?

Once you've eaten a Cracker Barrel breakfast, Waffle Houses don't count.

Sometimes on our Southern vacations, we'd have Cracker Barrel breakfasts 2 or 3 times a day. Biscuits and gravy, hominy grits, ...

The wife thinks we ought to build one on I-80, near Iowa City. I don't think grits would be a big seller, though. Then again, the Governor seems to think Iowa will be a tourist destination before he's done taxing and spending us into prosperity.

I never said I agreed with the sentence, only with the presentation of the story which pulled at the heartstrings of the reader.

Fair enough. Did you read the stories that Sass linked? I was trying to provide some balance.

Sure, but that was pre-Christian.

Wrong on this one, Steven. Dave posted this yesterday:

Sorry I missed it Mr. Thread Monitor. :-)Many times when a post is not addressed to said person it is missed. Happens quite often to people like me who are morally superior. :-) Please don't trip up in the near future. I'll be watching you? :-)

Is that the same Governor who thinks Iowa is "too white" and needs to encourage more "ethnic" people to come and live there?

Thank you for that. I feel more enlightened now.

That's why I pointed it out, Steven. Just one of the many services provided by the Heresy Lovefest's arch-heretic. ;o)

Sure, but that was pre-Christian.

If you say so. The point, though, is still indisputable that the Church, long after the Empire snuffed out, carried along this idea of a written code to the tribes of Europe.

Often times, the Church had to devise the first written instances of a language they met. They did this in order to have written agreements, contracts, etc.

Remember the old concept of "legal" death? Life without parole is as good as death. But I would stipulate that a prisoner under such sentence and who escapes should be put to death if he escapes and is caught. The death penalty is needed as the final solution.

Life without parole is as good as death.

Why should a murderer be allowed to live? Death is the just punishment for intentional homicide. If you think otherwise, then please present your case.

Deuteronomy 4 2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.

Do you keep kosher? Do you observe the Saturday Sabbath?

Are you without sin? (3rd request).
