The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Havoc duilds himself up as a master, so it is easy to destroy him by pointing out a single flaw. It is much like the enemies of the Church recognize.

I don't "duild" myself up as anything but an average joe who bothers to read rather than take somebody's word for anything and expects the same from others. I'm just effective against your propaganda because I do bother to read. Being effective and being a master are not one in the same. Your problem is that you've tried everything in the book to shut me up or discredit me and every reference I've ever presented - even Catholic references I'd note with a bit of divine irony, and you still can't overcome facts and scripture with rhetoric. That should be a lesson but it hasn't been learnt yet by appearances.

No dirt. Just truth. Did Havoc yesterday, or did he not rant about baptism and how John's baptism could not be efficaious and that Catholics were stupid for believing so? Well, I told him that he was wrong. That Catholics do not teach that John's baptism was efficacious. Why does our exper on Catholics miss such a simple thing?

Well, let's see, Havoc did not say that John's baptism wasn't efficacious. Havoc said that John's baptism was efficacious for repentance and that Christ's baptism was not that of John. And Havoc did so using the very testimony of John. Alas, Dave doesn't like the testimony of John because it makes a stark point that dunking people in water doesn't save them. Why must you pervert everything I say? If you're a christian, why is it necessary for you to engage in such tactics as are worthy of the devil?

Is this being "dirty" on my part? Is my tongue nasty?

Only when you mistate the record; so, yes.

Only if he's sitting in the back pew. Don't know why they don't wanna come and sit up front. :-)

Maybe they are now back seat baptists. :')

Twenty major events since the Chicago Cubs last won a World Series championship

Amazing when you think about it. We are only five years away from the 100 year mark.

Another interesting figure I remember is the time it took the Phillies to win their first (and only) World Series championship. The team was formed in 1883, and won its first championship in 1980, ninety-seven years later! Their first game ever was a loss on May 1, 1883 to the Providence Grays.

What is GIF? I see it posted a lot lately?

It's a sponsored picture, that can be posted, and also pictures that end with "jpg"

If you see a picture you like, right click it, then click "properties" and a gray block will drop in the left upper corner.

Right click inside that window and click “properties” again, and it will highlight the pictures address, and on the end you'll either see, "gif or jpg, and either one can be copied and pasted into the threads with the aid of a magic decoder ring that only I have. :-)

Well, I'm not a Christian. I've never been called a pagan. But some believe that I'm not saved

You sure?

I dunno. You been calling me a pagan behind my back? ;o)

Am I sure about which one?

And Angelo will have a new ride so he'll be OK with it

You sure?

I think ventana is referring to a promise Mack made to me. In the event of rapture, I get his Harley.

I wonder what the Catholics tell each other about us NC's and our belief in the Rapture?

malakhi, I suppose you've mentioned it to your wife, mind telling us how you explained it to her, if you did??

Wasn't me, but I know who did:') Seriously, I meant the first and third only.

Am I a Christian? Only by the broadest possible definition could I be classified as such. I was baptized (as an infant). I had a born-again experience (in my early teens). I have at various times been a member of different Christian churches. I do have a high regard for the teachings of Jesus, and even consider him a prophet (although the Pauline theology overlaying the gospel accounts tends to obscure this). But I do not believe the basic, fundamental Christian doctrines. I do not believe that Jesus was divine. I think he was a righteous man with a strong spiritual connection with God. I do not believe in the trinity, because I reject the idea of a multiplicity of persons in the Godhead. I do not believe in his unique sonship of God. And I do not believe that man is made righteous through him (Ezekiel 18:20). (If, however, he did indeed lay down his life voluntarily, then I believe he did so with the intent of modelling perfect love for the purpose of reconciling man to God. This ties into a variety of themes from Jewish mysticism.)

Some here have said that they believe I am saved (by Jesus) even if I am not explicitly aware of it. Some have suggested that, since I was "born again" at one point, that by OSAS God will bring me back around. Some would argue that I am "invincibly ignorant" and thus will be judged according to those standards. And some believe that I am not saved.

As for myself, I do believe that I am saved. But then I hold the universalist position that all will be reunited with God, eventually.
