The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.
Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

lol. Substitute assumption for ascension.

Mary is like us in our humanity, but this lowly maid is greater than any of the kings of the earth. She hold the place that Eve should have had. There is no "second Eve" only a "Last Adam" which is Jesus. Second eve is unscriptural

Sure. But, tell me. Who do you think has a more close spiritual relationship with God?
On your scale? Why don't you list 1 and 2.

It's all about your pride. No, really, it is not. But, there's no use in arguing with you. You flat-out refuse to consider that you could be wrong. You KNOW my heart.
The idea that Jesus might care for His mother in a special way is abhorrent,
Oh, puh-LEEZE. It's not like that with me at all, not one bit. Again, you insist upon taking every bit of truth and turning into "loathing" and "abhorrence."
What's truly "abhorrent" is that you would dismiss out-of-hand all the biblical text which could have been written for the very reason that someday -- at this very moment -- there would be a "C"hurch that exalts His mother more than He would like.
so you use the Bible out of context to make it seem radically egalitarian.
"You're an idiot."

My favorites are Luke1:28-35 and John 19:26-27.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I am asking who, besides the very person chosen to be the Mother of God Incarnate, would ahve a closer relationship with Him?
Do you have any suggestions?

As soon as you show me the Scripture for "everythign has to be explicit in Scripture"Didn't you just say the following? Scripture. so you use the Bible out of context to make it seem radically egalitarian.
You alledge the guy is taking scripture out of context yet you have no problem making up stuff that isn't in the book at all. Just pointing out more hypocrisy. That's why I'm staying late today.

LOL. You truly think that disagreeing with your interpretation is "dismissing" the Biblical Text. That's funny.
I'm not the only one here, not even among the NCs that doesn't view the text your way.

My favorites are Luke1:28-35 and John 19:26-27.Good. Then you wouldn't mind sharing how these are proof of perpetual virginity or the assumption.

I never said that we "make up stuff" that "isn't in there at all." Things are not explicit, they require synthesis.
That is a kind of interpretation. you can agree or disagree with it at you leisure.
None of that means that I can not disagree with another's interpretation. Just as you scoff at my synthesis, I scoff at his hyperliteral interpretation.

Whoa pardner. The Blessednes of Mary and the real presence of Christ at Holy Communion are explicit in Scripture. It's those who deny these special gifts that rely upon inference.
To: OLD REGGIE; SoothingDave
You have probably the nastiest tongue of any long timer on the Neverending. These are the nastiest things bandied about on this thread:
"You are not a Christian"
"You are a Pagan"
"You are not Saved"
etc.
They are not commonly uttered by Dave or any Catholic I can recall, but certainly are a commonplace from NCs
