The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

1st and 2nd death. Scripture. Deal with it.

Scripture read through the spectacles of your theology.

Done. I agree that these are also worthy topics of contemplation. The totality of Scripture does exault its culmination.

Here are the starting points for those who wish to participate in XeniaSt's exercise.

Gen 24:63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels [were] coming.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psa 1:2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psa 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, [and] meditate on thee in the [night] watches.

Psa 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Psa 119:15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

Psa 119:23 Princes also did sit [and] speak against me: [but] thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.

Psa 119:48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

Psa 119:78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: [but] I will meditate in thy precepts.

Psa 119:148 Mine eyes prevent the [night] watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

Psa 143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.

Isa 33:18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where [is] the scribe? where [is] the receiver? where [is] he that counted the towers?

Luk 21:14 Settle [it] therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

1Ti 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Your Bible is the Bible of the Puritans. Those who produced the KJV also translated the Apocrypha, because they knew that it provided a necessary bridge between the Hebrew scriptures and the Greek New Testament. The Puritans simply dropped them. Talk about picking and choosing.

Scripture read through the spectacles of your theology.

My theology, unlike yours, doesn't supercede scripture.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Talk about picking and choosing who I'm associated with.

If you knew squat about the Hebrew scriptures, you like Marcion wouldn't be trying to discredit them.

You are not going to get thrown out for asking questions. As for I.I. he overstates his Catholic credentials.

I expect you to respond to my 48,866. I'd be interested in your take on those 2 scriptures. In the past you've ignored responding to such blantant evidence that destroys your position.

Are you a Mormon? What "dating methodology" are you referring to? Please provide some source or point of reference.

You know, I really don't know what to do with you. It's ocurred to me that you know nothing about my beliefs though you've read enough that if you had the first clue what a mormon was, it is entirely impossible for you to mistake me for a mormon. I must conclude you are either being Krass, or you are ignorant of more than what is contained in scripture - including the history of the Israelites. I see why no one is rushing to aid in the defense of your position.

No, I'm not a Mormon. And no, the "Lost tribes" lingo is not Mormon in origin. That was the proper language long before mr. Smith published his manifesto of lies trying to outdo Rome for the number that could be told in one sitting.

As far as a source or point of reference on dating methods, I'll ask you again to provide your own. I've published those dates to these threads ages back. And while I can do it again, I'd rather watch you squirm a bit trying to discredit the science rather than blaming your rejections on me. Letting it leave you no quarter seems a bit of divine irony to me that I just cannot pass up. Please, proceed. It'll be nothing if not entertaining and you might learn something. What you do after that presents a greater possibility of fun yet. I've spent much of my time here blowing away accepted norms. Will be nice to see someone who doesn't know scripture educating us on it. Proceed.

How can you say this? Peter, and the others, definitely were commissioned to do so.

Imagine my surprise when I saw it too.. It's like having someone walk up after a bus has run over your head and ask you which way Earth is. The sense of it if there is any is lost. I'm waiting with baited breath to see the sheep fly down from the tree and start shouting "Albatross" at this point. Perhaps John Cleese will leap out from behind the Submit Button and a large foot will trounce him before He can smack "preview". Are we on the right planet? Forgive me if I seem a bit obtuse at the moment; but, I'm left with a profound sense of nothingness after the last few exchanges. Something smells. Is there a Christian alive that doesn't know what the lost tribes are? It seems inconcievable.

I think people sometimes go to an Apologist WebSite and post what they find. Unfortunately, some of these sites are not known for their scholarship. I don't believe, in most cases, it is audaciousness (sp) or dishonesty on their part, it is simply a case of lack of knowledge.

Thank you Reggie. Your perspective on the matter is appreciated. Almost feel grounded in reality again.

I don't see that by "second death" is meant more than eternal punishment.

Since Jesus refers to his own Ministry as being to the lost sheep of Israel, and He stayed right where he was it seems pretty reasonable that the lost sheep of Israel were the locals, not some "Lost Tribes".

If you follow his ministry, you'll find that he disappeared for a stint to minister to his "other sheep". Just because the Mormons pervert this doesn't mean it isn't Scriptural or historic. It is known in modern times where all but one of the tribes went to by name. It is also known that they were Not in Israel in the 1st century - a little history and a lot of scripture would do you well on this matter. I'm not sure who discipled you, but this is pretty basic stuff. Did you say you were Lutheran? For how long?

I find it more than a little ironic that after all this bluster Havoc turns out to be a bit of a Pagan himself.

It would be ironic if it were true, that I'll grant you. Alas, it is no more true than your uneducated assertion that I might be Mormon.

Never mind, I followed the link "Church of the Great God. a Sabbath keeping, Non-Trinitarian..."

Followed what link to which Sabbath keeping, Non-trinitarian. Hate to call your bluff after that puffy little charade; but, this is getting a little beyond absurd.

We'll be sure to tell Havoc when he gets back home. Lol

I'm trying to take him seriously though behind the keyboard I must admit to failing miserably on that point just now; I'm way past my bedtime; but, just somehow can't avoid the urge to catch up before hitting the sack. I'll pay for it tomorrow; but, I'm bookmarking all of it because nobody would believe it if I told them. It's rather surreal. If you guys weren't pinging me on his posts and responding just as incredulously, I'd wonder if I were imagining it. I know where my money is - Disruptor or so fresh he's not been to sunday school more than once to learn anything. I think it's safe to say most of the Catholics are probably puzzled at this point, unless he's one of them and trying to make Protestants look bad.. The irony in that would just be too thick to imagine for the moment.
