In the search for life on other planets, NASA has come up with a term that comes from a Fairy Tale. It's called The Goldilocks Zone. In order to sustain life as we know it, a planet has to be situated far enough from its life-sustaining star so it won't be burned to a crisp, but close enough to have liquid water. (The porridge can't be too hot or too cold. It has to be "Just Right".)

But, distance from the Sun isn't the ONLY factor to consider. Earth has an atmosphere that's "just right", the Van Allen Radiation Belt for "just right" protection from cosmic particles, A Moon that's sized "Just Right" to produce the just right tidal motion to encourage sea life, and the oceans and continents that balance out just right.

There are Three Names (or Titles) for The Holy Spirit in this Passage from Psalms, and we will look at them one at a time.

First let's talk about the context. This Psalm is perhaps the most heartrending of the Penitential Psalms, that is, a Psalm of Repentance.

King David is the author of this Psalm, and it was written after David committed adultery and murder. Those are two really BIG sins, and have specific Commandments against them. Not only were these horrific personal sins, they also endangered National Security, were an occasion of Profound Betrayal, included the collusion of a friend, and compromised Military Integrity. It was not only Adultery, but included Murder, Betrayal, Treason, and the Enticement of Others to Sin. It was so much bigger than just lusting after a general's wife. Like so many other sins, the "Cover-up" was arguably worse than the Crime itself. But Sin is Sin, and if you break ONE Commandment, you've broken them ALL, so this Prayer is appropriate for everybody.

The first Title of the Holy Spirit we encounter in this Psalm is The "Right" Spirit. I looked up the Hebrew on this word, and it doesn't mean direction (like "Right vs. Left"), nor does it mean correctness (as in 'Right vs. Wrong"). It doesn't have political connotations, although some would like to say that. It means Steadfast or Firm (STRONG'S 3559). If you go to the link , you will see a whole list of synonyms, but the general meaning is that of steadfastness, firmness, faithfulness, established, reliable, true and honest.

You know...Just Right.
