The Horrors of the Church and Its Holy Inquisition

The Inquisition was an ecclesiastical court and process of the Roman Catholic Church setup for the purpose towards the discovery and punishment of heresy which wielded immense power and brutality in medieval and early modern times. The Inquisitions function was principally assembled to repress all heretics of rights, depriving them of their estate and assets which became subject to the ownership of the Catholic treasury, with each relentlessly sought to destroy anyone who spoke, or even thought differently to the Catholic Church. This system for close to over six centuries became the legal framework throughout most of Europe that orchestrated one of the most confound religious orders in the course of mankind.

Inquisition Procedure

At root the word Inquisition signifies as little of evil as the primitive "inquire," or the adjective inquisitive, but as words, like persons, lose their characters by bad associations, so "Inquisition" has become infamous and hideous as the name of an executive department of the Roman Catholic Church.

All crimes and all vices are contained in this one word Inquisition. Murder, robbery, arson, outrage, torture, treachery, deceit, hypocrisy, cupidity, holiness. No other word in all languages is so hateful as this one that owes its abhorrent preeminence to its association with the Roman Church.

In the Dark Side of Christian History, Helen Ellerbe describes how the same men who had been both prosecutor and judge decided upon the sentence of heresy. Once an Inquisitor arrived to a heresy-ridden district, a 40 day period of grace was usually allowed to all who wished to confess by recanting their faith.

After this period of grace had finished, the inhabitants were then summoned to appear before the Inquisitor. Citizens accused of heresy would be woken in the dead of night, ordered, if not gagged, and then escorted

If you can’t discredit the message seek to discredit the messenger right?

How nice of you to casually admit that you didn't even read the link refuting Ellerbe.

The messenger discredits the message if they lie about history. If their message is a lie, or omits context, then they are an unworthy messenger.

THE STORY OF THE BIBLE

“LORD, OPEN THE KING OF ENGLAND’S EYES”
“I defy the pope, and all his laws,” said William Tyndale at dinner one evening. He then added that if God spared his life, he would cause the boy that drives the plow in England to know more of the Scriptures than the pope himself!

Tyndale sought approval from the bishop in London to make a new English translation of the Bible. Permission was denied, and Tyndale moved to Germany in 1524. There he met Martin Luther, completed a translation of the New Testament into English, and began to have it printed in Cologne.

He only printed part of Matthew when authorities heard about the printing. Tyndale and his assistant fled to Worms, where he had the complete New Testament printed. The copies were then smuggled into England concealed in cases of merchandise, barrels, bales of cloth, and sacks of flour and corn.

King Henry VIII opposed Tyndale’s translation and church officials bought copies to burn publicly. Opposition may have helped to increase circulation, and by the time of Tyndale’s death more than fifty thousand copies of his New Testament had been sold in England (some of which, admittedly, had been burned).

At one point a bishop visiting Europe negotiated to buy all the copies Tyndale had of the New Testament so that he could take them back to England and burn them in London. A friend persuaded Tyndale that to do so would enable him to pay off his debts and provide enough money to print more copies with his latest corrections.

Tyndale next turned his attention to the Old Testament and published an English translation of the Pentateuch in 1530 and Jonah in 1531.

British authorities would have liked to have Tyndale returned to England, and he wrote to Henry VIII that if the English text of the Bible were made freely available to Henry’s subjects, Tyndale would return to England and submit to whatever pain, torture, or even death Henry might decide.

In 1534, while living in the home of a British merchant in Antwerp in what is today Belgium, Tyndale published a thorough revision of the New Testament. In 1535 a young Englishman tricked Tyndale into going out of the house, and his enemies had him arrested and imprisoned for sixteen months. Tyndale was tried and sentenced to death. His last words were a prayer: “Lord, open the King of England’s eyes.”

“Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then reacts to your advantage.”

Islam could have been dealt with without the Inquisition.

Neither Jesus nor His disciples ever advocated for the kind of treatment for those who disagree with them as the Catholic church has demonstrated throughout the ages.

It is strange however that every mention of the Inquisition is followed by catholics attempts to both deny AND justify historical accounts. Which is it?

difference being I’m not the leader of a RELIGION ordering the torture and murder of countless victims while pretending to act by the authority of (or replacement of) God! In order to maintain control and power over the peasents!

There is no difference. Sin is sin and you are just as accountable for your sins in the place God has placed you just as others God has placed elsewhere. Perhaps you should concentrate on removing that plank in your own eye.

It’s called pointing out false historical accounts, and then providing accurate historical accounts.

Working both ends against the middle.

How can they justify something they deny happened?

If they try to justify it, it’s a tacit admission that it happened, therefore they can’t then logically deny it.

Not nearly as many people were killed by the Inquisition than have been murdered by socialist inquisitions.

Well, that makes it OK!

How can they justify something they deny happened?

You're overthinking it.

You can deny falsehoods and myths ABOUT a historical event (or a historical institution) without denying the existence of said event or institution.

The proof is in the pudding. Spain was entirely correct to expel the islamofascist colonizers and, unlike Egypt and the rest of North Africa, held onto its Christian heritage. Europe as a whole should repeat the process and probably will. When it happens will you let me drink your tears of ultimate sadness?

In the article, one of the Grand Inquisitors of the time was named Bernardus Guidonis.

In the book The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco, his Grand Inquisitor’s name was Bernardo Gui.

Played in the movie version by F. Murray Abraham.

Islam could have been dealt with without the Inquisition.

The Inquisition did not target Muslims or Jews.

The Inquisition targeted Catholic heretics, include alleged converts (hence, officially Catholic) who didn't actually believe in or practice the faith.

Muslims and Jews who didn't claim to be Catholic were left alone by the Inquisition.

Muslims and Jews were expelled by Ferdinand and Isabella, but that was done by the secular government, not by the church.

Stop spreading ignorant Black Legend nonsense.

"A most important point made by the Spanish scholars is that the inquisitional courts of the Church were both more just and more lenient than civil courts and religious courts elsewhere in Europe at the time. Prisoners in Spanish secular courts, knowing this would sometimes blaspheme in order to be sent to the courts of the Inquisition where conditions were better."

Please tell us why you think that Muslims burning down cathedrals in Europe is a good thing. One cathedral in France is burning down right now🔥.

You are probably gleeful about it.
